SUMMARY:Port Angeles Fine Arts Center Presents: The Living Experience
DESCRIPTION:Port Angeles Fine Arts Center Presents: The Living Experience\nSunday\, March 8 @ 2PM | Donna M. Morris Theater | General Admission: $18  \nThe Living Experience shines a light on death workers and historians whose practices engage mortality with curiosity\, care\, and creative rigor. From working in morgues\, to being an autopsy photographer\, to researching the history of books bound in human skin\, to creating mourning jewelry\, this lecture event will look to challenge cultural taboos\, honor traditions and the deceased\, and offer an honest look at what it means to work within the death industry—where science\, art\, ethics\, and remembrance often intersect. \nFeatured speakers include Megan Rosenbloom\, author of Dark Archives; Dr. Marianne Hamel\, forensic pathologist and co-founder of the art collective Death Under Glass; Nikki Johnson\, forensic photographer and co-founder of Death Under Glass; and Gina Iacovelli\, owner of Mementos Entwined\, known for her Victorian-inspired mourning jewelry; Astrid Raffinpeyloz\, Death Doula with Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County and Carmen Watson-Charles\, Cultural Manager for the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe. Together they explore how death work can be both deeply human and profoundly illuminating—inviting us to reconsider our relationship with mortality\, memory\, and deeper understanding.

Donations like these\, cash donations at Field Hall\, and purchases of food and drinks through the bar support this ongoing free series at Field Hall. We thank you for all levels of support – including thunderous applause for our local artists! \n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT BREAD & GRAVY\nBread & Gravy Duo is a popular husband and wife act (Stephanie and Jess Doenges) who perform songs across many styles and genres. They feature powerful female vocals\, eclectic piano\, rhythm guitar\, and the occasional flute and harmonica. They have hosted or cohosted many Open Mics on the peninsula\, including ‘Open Mic at the Buzz’\, ‘The Junction Open Jam’\, ‘The Rainshadow Open Mic’\, and most recently at ‘Open Mic at the Sit-N-Bull’. They often play as a bigger band\, adding steady stalwarts such as Jerry Gilleland (drums) and Jason Taylor (bass and harmonies) and have also collaborated with dozens of other local musicians\, so one never knows who will come sit in with them on a given night. Follow @breadandgravymusic for more. \nSTEPHANIE DOENGES (SOUND)\nStephanie is one of the most established and recognized musicians on the peninsula. She has been playing music since a young age\, and has been in local bands such as Restless\, Luck of the Draw\, Rolling Waters\, and the Cornstalks. For the past twelve years\, she has been the face and voice of Bread and Gravy in all of its formations. While her voice is a main draw\, and guitar is her most common instrument\, she often surprises and astounds with riveting flute and harmonica solos.\nStephanie has run sound for Open Mics for many years now\, and she’s grown very adept at dialing people in quickly\, as well as tailoring the sound to any nuance the performer displays. \nJESS DOENGES (MC)\nJess is the quintessential late bloomer\, who didn’t touch a musical instrument until age 29. Bread & Gravy is the first and only band he’s ever been in. In juxtaposition to the versatile Stephanie\, he’s a one trick pony on the piano. But his love for piano\, and his love for Stephanie shows through in his playing\, and he has truly played himself into one of the top accompanists around. As an MC\, he has tons of experience herding cats (err.. musicians) to make the Open Mic experience enjoyable and fair for all involved. His quick wit and inviting vibe tend to make the audience comfortable and relaxed\, which is what is needed to have a supportive environment for all performers.

After failing in his first attempt to get on the show\, Mochrie spent eight years as a regular until it ended in 1998. He then joined the US version on ABC\, appearing in every episode\, and continues with the current revival on the CW Network\, now in its ninth season having played 18 seasons in total and currently airing in over 100 countries. \nMochrie has toured the world with fellow Whoser Brad Sherwood for the past 20 years\, appears in the Second City Guide to Symphonies in front of orchestras all over North America and recently wrote his first collection of short stories\, Not Quite the Classics\, available on Amazon. SUMMARY:JFFA & Field Hall IN HARMONY: The Sam Chase
DESCRIPTION:JFFA & Field Hall IN HARMONY: The Sam Chase | Candelight Show\nSaturday\, March 14th @ 7PM | GET TICKETS HERE \nField Hall is thrilled to partner with our friends at Juan de Fuca Foundation for the Arts for another “In Harmony” series\, bringing some JFFA Festival favorites back to Port Angeles. See The Sam Chase with over 1200 glowing candles setting the scene for a night of music\, stories\, and entertainment. \nThe Sam Chase\, front man of fan favorites The Sam Chase & The Untraditional\, brings his stripped down solo show to the stage for an intimate evening of storytelling and songs. Known for his husky\, weathered voice and deeply personal writing\, this performance reveals the quieter\, more vulnerable side of the San Francisco folk rock artist. \nIn his solo performances\, Chase leans into powerful narratives filled with humor\, heartbreak\, and raw emotion. Songs are presented in acoustic form\, allowing the lyrics and melodies to take center stage. The result is a dynamic contrast to the loud\, punk infused energy of his full band\, highlighting his range as both a songwriter and performer. \nBlending roots\, folk\, country\, and rock influences\, the set moves easily between original songs and well chosen covers\, creating a sound that feels both familiar and deeply personal. Chase’s unmistakable voice and honest delivery give each song a lived in quality that connects quickly with audiences. \nThis solo performance offers a rare chance to experience the heart of The Sam Chase up close. It is raw\, engaging\, and compelling\, showcasing an artist whose music is as powerful in its quiet moments as it is at full volume.

Through statewide and national leadership roles—and alongside her husband\, David\, as they raised their family here—Colleen has consistently invested in the resilience\, prosperity\, and future of the community she calls home. \nAlda Siebrands\nRetired U.S. Coast Guard Commander Alda Siebrands embodies courage\, equality\, and compassion. Raised on an Iowa farm\, Alda’s path of service began in the Peace Corps and continued through the U.S. Army and a distinguished Coast Guard career. A trailblazer for women in uniform\, she built a legacy of leadership and grit. Alda’s life also reflects a deep commitment to equality; she and her late wife\, Kris Slack\, were married in Canada before Washington state recognized same-sex marriage. In Port Angeles\, Alda is known for her generosity\, community spirit\, and steadfast devotion — qualities that continue to inspire. \nFrances Charles\nAs longtime Chairwoman of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe\, Frances Charles is one of the Pacific Northwest’s most respected Indigenous leaders. Her leadership was instrumental in the historic removal of the Elwha River dams — the largest dam removal project in U.S. history — restoring salmon habitat and revitalizing cultural lifeways for her people. A champion of environmental stewardship\, Tribal sovereignty\, and cultural preservation\, she has guided her community through transformative milestones while mentoring the next generation of Indigenous women leaders. \nModerator \nKate McDermott\nThe conversation will be guided by Kate McDermott\, founder of Art of the Pie® and a James Beard Award finalist.
