Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \nImmerse yourself in the deep\, soothing and healing vibrations of the cello with world acclaimed one-man cello orchestra\, composer\, and multilingual vocalist Ian Maksin! \nIn this concert\, he will perform original instrumental music written throughout the years and recorded on several releases: Sempre\, Alchemist\, Amor Renatus\, and Lullaby for the World\, as well as many songs from his collection in 43 languages including French\, Spanish\, Italian\, Japanese\, Ukrainian\, Farsi and many more. \nMaksin’s original music transcends well beyond New Age and Neo-Classical\, as it encompasses elements of many genres from jazz to world music\, drawing inspiration from traditional African\, Mongolian and Middle Eastern Music\, from Mozart and Bach\, as well as from contemporary composers such as Astor Piazzolla and Ludovico Einaudi. Expanded by use of the loop pedal and other electronics to sound like a real orchestra\, his music will take you on a mystical spiritual journey through Tribal Africa\, Mongolia\, lands of North American natives\, and beyond. \nAbout Ian Maksin: ianmaksin.com\nInstagram: instagram.com/ianmaksin\nFacebook: facebook.com/cellomaxx\nYouTube: youtube.com/ianmaksin\nApple Music: music.apple.com/us/artist/ian-maksin/268783791\nSpotify: open.spotify.com/artist/2OdXXipsrskFeePBpIdtc2 \nBREAKING BOUNDARIES both musical and geographical\, cellist\, composer and multilingual vocalist IAN MAKSIN has created his own unique style by blending elements of different genres and traditional music from around the globe in a new way using his cello as the main unifying force. \nONE-MAN ORCHESTRA: In addition to cello\, he used an electronic device called the loop pedal\, which allows him to create “loops” or layers by recording and replaying his own playing in real time. \nSINGING IN 30 LANGUAGES: What began as a hobby and a passion for linguistics and travel has become part of a unique concert experience. At this time Ian Maksin sings in Ukrainian\, Polish\, Russian\, English\, Farsi\, Armenian\, French\, Italian\, Arabic\, Hebrew\, Mongolian\, Bambara (one of the tongues spoken in West Africa) and many other exotic languages. Most of this repertoire was amassed by Maksin during his world travels\, jam sessions and collaborations with local musicians. Many of his original songs and instrumental compositions are also infused with flavors of ethnic music from countries and regions where he drew inspiration from: Mongolia\, West Africa\, Middle East\, the Balkans\, Andalusian flamenco. \nTHE GLOBAL MUSICIAN: Ian Maksin was born in Leningrad\, former USSR\, into a multinational family and grew up absorbing many cultures and traditions from an early age. He began playing guitar and piano at age 3 and cello at age 6 at the School for Gifted Children in Leningrad and then came to the USA at 16 to continue studies at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City and Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. After working for many years in the classical genre including a three-year tenure with the New World Symphony in Miami Ian has decided to look for his own musical path. His diverse musical experience\, including playing rock and blues guitar and passion for jazz and world music has allowed him to take the cello to a new dimension and develop his own distinct style as a musician and composer. \nIn Ian’s own words: “At some point I realized that music is much more than mere entertainment. Music is one of most powerful and unifying forces in the world\, capable of healing\, inspiring\, bringing people together and bringing peace among them. I believe that cello will save the world”  \n\n\n\n\n\nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone. Financial assistance is available for this event through our #fieldhallforall program. SUMMARY:JFFA & Field Hall IN HARMONY: Luca Stricagnoli Candlelight Concert
DESCRIPTION:Field Hall & JFFA IN HARMONY: Luca Stricagnoli Candlelight Concert\nSunday\, September 20th @ 6:30PM | Donna M. Morris Theater\n$30 – $50 Adult\, $15 Youth | CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS\nFinancial assistance available – click here to apply \n*Our ticketing platform Ludus charges a 5% service fee for all card transactions. To avoid this fee\, visit our Box Office at 201 W. Front Street and pay via cash or check. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM.  \nField Arts & Events Hall is thrilled to partner with our friends at JFFA for another “In Harmony” event\, and our third installation of our Candlelight series.  Over 2\,000 glowing candles set the scene for a night of music\, stories\, and entertainment. \nLuca Stricagnoli is considered to be one of the most unique guitarists in the world. Luca’s creative style\, which led him to invent instruments like the Reversed Triple Neck Guitar and the Reversed Slide Neck\, vastly contributed to the modern evolution of acoustic guitar. \nKnown worldwide for his explosive fingerstyle technique\, alternate tunings\, and multi-neck guitars\, Stricagnoli transforms the acoustic guitar into a full orchestra—blending melody\, rhythm\, percussion\, and harmony into a single\, unforgettable performance. His original compositions and reimagined covers push the boundaries of what’s possible on six strings\, delivering both technical brilliance and pure entertainment. \nHe has been hailed as a phenomenon and a prodigy by influential magazines and newspapers all over the world\, including NME\, Guitar World\, Der Spiegel\, La Repubblica\, Daily Sabah\, Frankfurter Allgemeine and more. \nLocal fans will recognize him from performances at Juan de Fuca Festival for the Arts. \n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT LUCA STRICAGNOLI\nLuca started his career at the age of 10\, studying classical guitar and later attending the Conservatory\, the most prestigious music school in Italy. He excelled in classical competitions\, placing 1st at the contest “Cittá di Lissone”\, and when he finally discovered Fingerstyle Guitar\, he began spending endless hours on YouTube\, learning techniques just by watching videos. Using his acoustic guitar\, he won even more competitions\, such as the Acoustic Guitar Contest “VII Festival Internazionale Della Chitarra di Fiuggi” with a score of 100/100\, the “Festival dei Talenti” and an opportunity to open for Legendary Italian band New Trolls. Meanwhile\, Luca met the Italian luthier Davide Serracini\, with whom he collaborated ever since. \nIn the coming years\, Luca started creating his own unique style\, which included utilizing violin bows\, multiple guitars at once\, modified capos and unusual tunings. His breakthrough came when his arrangement ‘The Last Of The Mohicans’ was picked up by Candyrat Records\, the most influential Fingerstyle label\, and quickly reached streaming numbers in the millions. After this success\, Luca was asked to release his debut album. The lead single\, a brilliant rendition of ‘Thunderstruck\,’ went viral with over 14 million views in just a few weeks\, which led to him being invited to perform all around the world. \nLuca started an intense touring activity and a few years later published his second album ‘What If?’\, which incorporated many of the unorthodox ideas that he had been working on\, like the Reversed Triple Neck Guitar. This instrument\, which featured the first reversed neck in guitar’s history\, went viral once again\, causing Luca’s career to skyrocket\, with performances at events for Nobel Prize Winners and Top CEOs\, as well as having his music featured in countless television shows. \nLuca started his own YouTube channel and quickly amassed hundred-thousands of followers\, winning the Creator Award while at the same time collaborating with his wife\, the award-winning singer/songwriter Meg Pfeiffer. Together\, they won the European Songwriting Award and 10 prizes at the German Rock & Pop Awards\, and embarked on highly successful tours. \nOn his 3rd album\, ‘Change of Rules’\, Luca debuted even more inventions such as the “Guitar Ring” but also the “Reversed Slide Neck”\, a unique attachable guitar neck which received incredible online success and even the praise of New Atlas\, one of the world’s largest international science and technology publications. \nLuca has played around 100 shows a year\, from small concerts in remote towns to massive shows at the Nokia Arena in Tel Aviv; from private events for clients like Formula 1\, Hard Rock Hotel\, Infosys\, and BNSF Railways\, to sold-out concerts in prestigious philharmonics\, theatres and performing arts centers. He has held workshops for universities and played on national TV and at international festivals\, as well as being a judge at international guitar competitions. \nIn his career he had the chance of sharing the stage with Grammy winners and nominees including Jim “Kimo” West\, Linda Briceño\, Debashish Bhattacharya and many other immensely talented artists like William Joseph\, Caroline Campbell\, Sona Jobarteh\, Lulo Reinhardt\, Antoine Dufour\, Cenk Erdogan\, Antoine Boyer\, Samuelito\, Calum Graham\, Crystian Dozza\, Thu Le and Alexandra Wittingham to mention a few. Luca has recently founded his own music label and is also a recurring host of International Guitar Night. \nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \nLed by the extraordinary Martha Redbone and longtime collaborator Aaron Whitby\, The Roots Project is an experience that is more than a concert: a journey through American music\, storytelling\, and shared cultural memory. Hailed as “a brilliant collision of cultures\,” the ensemble weaves together folk\, blues\, gospel\, and soul with Indigenous musical traditions to create a sound that is at once timeless and urgently contemporary. \nIn this stripped-down songwriter format\, the evening unfolds with an intimate\, conversational energy. Redbone’s powerhouse vocals—shaped by her Afro-Indigenous heritage and Appalachian upbringing—blend with Whitby’s expressive piano and musical direction\, creating a rich sonic landscape that moves effortlessly between genres and emotional registers. Through story and song\, they share reflections on identity\, resilience\, and the human spirit\, inviting audiences not just to listen\, but to connect. \nExpect a performance that feels both deeply rooted and spontaneously alive: songs that draw from ancestral traditions and contemporary influences\, interwoven with humor\, history\, and heartfelt storytelling. Past performances by the Roots Project are known for their communal spirit—often blurring the line between stage and audience through call-and-response\, storytelling\, and a shared sense of purpose. \nSet against the sweeping waterfront views of the Sunset Lounge\, an intimate gathering space known for its warm ambiance\, craft cocktails\, and relaxed pre-show atmosphere\, this Songwriter’s Evening invites audiences into a deeply personal\, soul-stirring musical experience. \nWhether you’re discovering Martha Redbone for the first time or returning to her work\, this evening offers a rare opportunity to experience one of America’s most vital voices in an up-close\, immersive setting—where every note\, every story\, and every moment resonates. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nABOUT MARTHA REDBONE\nMartha Redbone is a vocalist\, songwriter\, composer and 2021 United States Artist fellow and multi award-winning musician\, she is celebrated for her tasty gumbo of roots music embodying the folk and mountain blues sounds of her childhood in the Appalachian hills of Black Mountain\, Kentucky\, infused with the eclectic grit of her teenage years in pre-gentrified Brooklyn. Inheriting her powerful gospel-singing father’s voice and the resilient spirit of her mother’s Southeastern culture and heritage\, Redbone broadens the boundaries of American Roots music with songs and storytelling that give voice to issues of social justice\, connecting cultures and celebrating the human spirit. Martha works in partnership with longtime collaborator/husband Aaron Whitby. \nHer album The Garden of Love: Songs of William Blake (produced by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band founder and Grammy-winner John McEuen)\, is “a brilliant collision of cultures” (New Yorker). Redbone and Whitby are the composers\, arrangers and orchestrators of original music and score for the 2022 Broadway revival of For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuff\, the 1976 classic choreopoem by the late Ntozake Shange\, which garnered seven Tony Award nominations and critical acclaim. Redbone and Whitby are the 2020 Drama Desk Award recipients for Outstanding Music in a Play and the 2020 Audelco Award recipient for Outstanding Composer of Original Music and Score for the Off-Broadway revival.\nABOUT AARON WHITBY\nAaron Whitby is an award-winning pianist\, songwriter\, composer\, record producer\, and engineer known for his work with an array of noteworthy artists\, including George Clinton\, Natalie Cole\, Randy Brecker. Born and bred in London\, England\, Whitby is best known for his work with his longtime collaborator and wife\, Martha Redbone. Whitby is the brainchild behind Cousin from Another Planet- a Jazz and Visual exploration project\, receiving critical acclaim and accolades from music journalist and critic Greg Tate as “Percolating\, stimulating and motor- booty activatin’…”. Additional works from the Redbone/Whitby composer team include “Revelation” by Flannery O’Connor directed by Karin Coonrod (2022)\, “HUMAN” an exploration in puppetry directed by Nehprii Amenii (2024)\, song contribution for “Primer for a Failed Superpower” directed by Rachel Chavkin (2019); “Flood in the Valley”\, a Chinese -American musical collaboration directed by Michael Liebenluft (2018)\, “Stars” – Privacy in the Digital Age in 5-Minute Plays (2018)\, commissioned by the New York Theater Workshop and Goethe Institute\, and many more. Whitby and Redbone are recipients of Creative Capital awardees\, the New England Foundation for the Arts Award\, MAPFund and National Performance Network Creation Fund. The team are currently in development with Black Mountain Women\, a new musical directed by Les Waters\, book by Naomi Iizuka\, commissioned by the Public Theater\, NY. As with Redbone\, we are excited to partner with Whitby because of his unique and energetic musical collaborations with Redbone that highlight\, preserve\, and share the stories\, cultures\, and voices of our country’s marginalized communities. \nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \nJudy Collins has long inspired audiences with sublime vocals\, boldly vulnerable songwriting\, personal life triumphs\, and a firm commitment to social activism. In the 1960s\, she evoked both the idealism and steely determination of a generation united against social and environmental injustices. Six decades later\, her luminescent presence shines brightly as new generations bask in the glow of her iconic 55-album body of work\, and heed inspiration from her spiritual discipline to thrive in the music industry for half a century. \nIn 2026\, Collins bids adieu to the road with her “SWEET JUDY BLUE EYES” Farewell Tour\, launching July 4\, 2026 and running through 2027—an expansive final run across North America and beyond that gives audiences one last chance to experience her timeless voice and storytelling live. The tour follows a remarkable recent chapter: six new albums released since 2015\, the artistic renaissance of Spellbound (her first album of all self-penned songs\, nominated for Best Folk Album at the 2023 GRAMMY Awards)\, and her 2025 poetry collection Sometimes It’s Heaven: Poems of Love\, Loss and Redemption—a vivid extension of the honesty and grace that have defined her enduring legacy. \n  \nABOUT JUDY COLLINS\nJudy Collins is an award-winning singer-songwriter esteemed for her imaginative interpretations of traditional and contemporary folk standards and her own poetically poignant original compositions. Her stunning rendition of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now” from her landmark 1967 album\, Wildflowers\, has been entered into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Judy’s dreamy and sweetly intimate version of “Send in the Clowns\,” a ballad written by Stephen Sondheim for the Broadway musical A Little Night Music\, won “Song of the Year” at the 1975 Grammy Awards. She’s garnered several top-ten hits gold- and platinum-selling albums. Recently\, contemporary and classic artists such as Rufus Wainwright\, Shawn Colvin\, Dolly Parton\, Joan Baez\, and Leonard Cohen honored her legacy with the album Born to the Breed: A Tribute to Judy Collins.  \n  \nOPENING ACT: OAKLAND RAIN\nEven things that seem identical are different. Oakland Rain’s Maren Wallevik and Charlotte Wallevik are what some would call mirror twins\, an elusive condition loosely defined by opposing characteristics. For example\, one is left-handed\, the other is right-handed; one thinks in colors (sound-to-color synesthesia)\, and the other is more language centric. Within Maren and Charlotte are many contrasts that shape their sense of selves\, both as individuals and as twin sisters. \nFor the Norwegian indie folk-pop/ country-americana duo’s double full-length debut\, Twin Flames\, the sisters explore these paradoxes and other puzzles of identity. The conceptual and thoughtfully curated project is organized by color and genre. Twin Flame Part I: The Evergreen (the “green” side) is showcasing Oakland Rain’s affinity for earthy Americana\, and was released in the spring of 2025\, receiving stunning reviews. With the album\, the sisters got nominated for Best New Artist at the honorable Fjordingprisen by Norwegian Americana Forum\, played at Folk Alliance International\, and got invited to an extensive North American tour by legend Judy Collins. With the album and its aftermath\, Oakland Rain released the album documentary “The Road To The Ryman”\, which has gained attention amongst international film festivals. Twin Flame Part II: Heavenly Blue (the “blue” side)\, is slated for autumn 2026/spring 2027\, gracefully delves into Nordic fleeting alternative pop. \n“The title Twin Flames felt like us—we are literally twin flames—the music on the album is influenced by the dualities that shape us\,” Maren says. Charlotte continues: “These two albums are our expression of the human condition. The green side is the realism of life\, and the blue side is escapism and imagination. We need both—you can show courage and still hold fear. They can and do coexist.” \nThis premium performance is made possible with support from Oak Street Bistro
