SUMMARY:The Flying Karamozov Brothers: Artifishal Idiots
DESCRIPTION:Field Hall Presents: Artifishal Idiots: A New Theatre Experience by The Flying Karamazov Brothers\nFriday\, February 20th @ 6:30PM | Donna M. Morris Theater\n*Tickets $25-$45 Adult\, $22 Youth | Financial assistance available – click here to apply\n*Our ticketing platform Ludus charges a 5% service fee for all credit card transactions. To avoid this fee\, visit our Box Office at 201 W. Front Street and pay via cash or check. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \n“Any competent juggler can defy gravity. Only the Karamazovs can make light of it.” – The Seattle Times \nArtifishal Idiots is a hilarious\, provocative\, awe-inspiring exploration of humanity in the age of AI. \nLegendary for more than five decades of boundary-pushing physical comedy\, virtuosic juggling\, and sharp social commentary\, The Flying Karamazov Brothers return with an entirely new theatrical work. Artifishal Idiots is a bold\, funny\, and unsettling exploration of artificial intelligence—and what it means to be human. \nSet in a not-too-distant future where flesh-and-blood humans may no longer exist\, Artifishal Idiots fuses high-level juggling\, music\, and live performance with AI-generated visuals and hallucinatory projections across three massive screens. The result is a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience that delivers nonstop laughter alongside jaw-dropping physical feats. \n\n\n\n\n\nAt the heart of the work is a deceptively simple idea: what can machines never replace? The answer unfolds through juggling\, an art form defined by risk\, imperfection\, and inevitable failure. Gravity always wins\, and in that failure\, the show finds something profoundly human. \nCreated and performed by Paul Magid (Dmitri Karamazov) alongside collaborators Chen Pollina and Tomoki Sage of the ensemble NANDA\, the production reflects the Karamazovs’ tradition of building everything in-house\, from choreography and performance to visuals\, design\, and conceptual world-building. AI-driven imagery inspired by psychedelic 1960s light shows collides with blisteringly fast\, intricate juggling to create moments of beauty\, chaos\, and surprise. \nEqual parts comedy\, spectacle\, and cautionary tale\, Artifishal Idiots is theatre that can only be experienced live. \n“When the Karamazovs magically make juggling look like a dance routine or sound like a jazz jam session\, their act really flies.” – The New York Times \n“They juggle till they drop\, then keep on juggling!” – Time Out New York \nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone. Financial assistance is available for this event through our #fieldhallforall program. Patrons can request a discount of up to 100%. Click here to apply for financial assistance.

Iris’ 1992 debut Infamous Angel was hailed by Rolling Stone Magazine as “an essential album of the 90’s”; NPR has called her “one of the great voices in contemporary popular music”\, and The Boston Globe heralded her 2012  album Sing The Delta to be a “work of rare\, unvarnished grace and power…”. In 2017\, The Americana Music Association honored Iris with their Trailblazer Award\, recognizing a singular artist who forged her own uncompromising path. \nOn her transcendent record (2023)\, Workin’ On A World\, Iris DeMent faces the modern world— with its climate catastrophe\, pandemic illness\, and epidemic of violence and social injustice. She not only asks us how we can keep working towards a better world\, but implores us to love each other\, despite our very different ways of seeing. Her songs are her way of healing our broken inner and outer spaces. The record was included on NPR’s List of Top 50 Albums for 2023  and the title track won Song of the Year at the 2024 International Folk Music Awards. Workin’ on a World has garnered glowing press from Rolling Stone\,   Pitchfork \,  The New York Times\,  The New Yorker  and  No Depression Magazine  among others. \n\n\n\n\n\nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone. It soon becomes clear\, however\, that each one seeks a recipe for something beyond the kitchen. \nStudents include Claire\, a young mother struggling with the demands of her family; Antonia\, an Italian kitchen designer learning to adapt to life in America; and Tom\, a widower mourning the loss of his wife to breast cancer. Chef Lillian\, a woman whose connection with food is both soulful and exacting\, helps them to create dishes whose flavor and techniques expand beyond the restaurant and into the secret corners of her students’ lives. \nOne by one the students are transformed by the aromas\, flavors\, and textures of Lillian’s food\, including a white-on-white cake that prompts wistful reflections on the sweet fragility of love and a peppery heirloom tomato sauce that seems to spark one romance but end another. Brought together by the power of food and companionship\, the lives of the characters mingle and intertwine\, united by the revealing nature of what can be created in the kitchen. \nABOUT ERICA BAUERMEISTER\nErica Bauermeister is the NYT bestselling author of five novels\, including The School of Essential Ingredients\, The Scent Keeper\, and No Two Persons. She has also written a memoir\, House Lessons: Renovating a Life.
