SUMMARY:Open Mic Mondays hosted by Bread & Gravy Duo
DESCRIPTION:Field Arts & Events Hall welcomes you to share your talent on our Sunset Lounge stage! Join us for Open Mic Mondays in the Sunset Lounge\, hosted by Bread & Gravy Duo. \nThe Sunset Bar & Lounge opens to the public at 5PM and will serve small bites and drinks throughout the event. Signup for open mic begins at 6PM; open mic starts at 6:15PM. This is a free\, all-ages event – no RSVP or ticket required. \nABOUT BREAD & GRAVY\nBread & Gravy Duo is a popular husband and wife act (Stephanie and Jess Doenges) who perform songs across many styles and genres. They feature powerful female vocals\, eclectic piano\, rhythm guitar\, and the occasional flute and harmonica. They have hosted or cohosted many Open Mics on the peninsula\, including ‘Open Mic at the Buzz’\, ‘The Junction Open Jam’\, ‘The Rainshadow Open Mic’\, and most recently at ‘Open Mic at the Sit-N-Bull’. They often play as a bigger band\, adding steady stalwarts such as Jerry Gilleland (drums) and Jason Taylor (bass and harmonies) and have also collaborated with dozens of other local musicians\, so one never knows who will come sit in with them on a given night. Follow @breadandgravymusic for more. \nSTEPHANIE DOENGES (SOUND)\nStephanie is one of the most established and recognized musicians on the peninsula. She has been playing music since a young age\, and has been in local bands such as Restless\, Luck of the Draw\, Rolling Waters\, and the Cornstalks. For the past twelve years\, she has been the face and voice of Bread and Gravy in all of its formations. While her voice is a main draw\, and guitar is her most common instrument\, she often surprises and astounds with riveting flute and harmonica solos. \nStephanie has run sound for Open Mics for many years now\, and she’s grown very adept at dialing people in quickly\, as well as tailoring the sound to any nuance the performer displays. \nJESS DOENGES (MC)\nJess is the quintessential late bloomer\, who didn’t touch a musical instrument until age 29. Bread & Gravy is the first and only band he’s ever been in. In juxtaposition to the versatile Stephanie\, he’s a one trick pony on the piano. But his love for piano\, and his love for Stephanie shows through in his playing\, and he has truly played himself into one of the top accompanists around. As an MC\, he has tons of experience herding cats (err.. musicians) to make the Open Mic experience enjoyable and fair for all involved. His quick wit and inviting vibe tend to make the audience comfortable and relaxed\, which is what is needed to have a supportive environment for all performers.

SUMMARY:Cooksey Gallery Exhibit Opening: VOYAGES MONOCHROMATIQUES "MONOCHROMATIC JOURNEYS"
DESCRIPTION:Field Hall Gallery Exhibit Opening: VOYAGES MONOCHROMATIQUES “MONOCHROMATIC JOURNEYS”\nOpening on April 15th @ 5PM | On Display April 15 – June 15\nFREE ADMISSION \n\n\nOPENING CELEBRATION APRIL 15\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for the opening celebration of VOYAGES MONOCHROMATIQUES featuring the work of local photographers Thompson Holmes\, Richard Kohler\, Ernst-Ulrich Schafer\, and Philippe Tauran. The exhibit explores the essence of visual subject matter through the contrasts of light and shadow\, from bright whites to deep blacks\, in a celebration of black-and-white imagery. \nThe venue will open at 5PM\, with live music from The Sarah Shea Trio kicking off the evening. Gallery Manager Georgia Ray Johnson will introduce the artists and provide the land acknowledgement. The featured artists will offer their perspectives on the show followed by an opportunity for Q&A. The gallery will then open for viewing at approximately 5:35PM\, with musicians returning to perform as guests mingle until 7PM. \n\n\n\n\nON DISPLAY APRIL 15 – JUNE 15\n\n\n\n\nWithout color\, light and composition are put sharply into focus to create a fresh perspective. \nOn display April 15 through June 15th. Local photographers Thompson Holmes\, Richard Kohler\, Ernst-Ulrich Schafer and Philippe Tauran are have been working in the medium of monochrome photography for many years collectively. Through much effort and practice\, they have found that the essence of visual subject matter can genuinely be shown in monochromatic style. \nThe light and the composition are very important in capturing the moment: everything is expressed in terms of light\, from bright white to dark black\, and in many wonderful shades of gray in between. This is a celebration of black and white photography – a unique artistic experience which challenges the viewer to see beyond color. \nGallery hours are 10AM – 2PM Monday through Saturday. Free admission\, donations are appreciated and support future exhibits. Learn more at www.fieldhallevents.org/gallery

Morris Theater\nLIVESTREAM AVAILABLE: CLICK HERE TO WATCH LIVE \nPAY-WHAT-MAKES-YOU-HAPPY \nField Arts & Events Hall will host a pivotal First Fed Community Conversation on the importance of local journalism\, honoring the legacy of John Brewer. Brewer\, who led the Peninsula Daily News from 1998 to 2015\, was a dedicated newsman whose contributions left a lasting impact on the Olympic Peninsula. \nThis event aims to highlight the crucial role of local news in fostering informed communities\, promoting civic engagement\, and holding institutions accountable. Strategies for sustaining quality journalism in the region will also be discussed. Participants will hear firsthand accounts of how local journalism impacts lives in the community\, emphasizing the need for continued support and investment in this vital resource. \nBy bringing together diverse voices in journalism\, the event seeks to foster a deeper understanding of the value of local news and inspire collective action to preserve it. This gathering at Field Arts & Events Hall promises to be an enlightening and empowering experience\, reinforcing the essential connection between local news and community well-being. \nModerator:  George Erb\, Journalist and Educator \nPanelists: \nBrier Dudley\, Seattle Times\nEran Kennedy\, Peninsula Daily News\nBrown M. Maloney\, Radio Pacific\nEmma Maple\, Peninsula Daily News\nRich Riski\, Peninsula College \nGEORGE ERB\, MODERATOR\nGeorge Erb is a retired journalist and university educator who remains active in journalism and open-government issues. He worked more than 40 years as a reporter and editor at weekly and daily newspapers\, all in Western Washington. George’s writing credits include The Seattle Times and the Peninsula Daily News. During his 7 ½ years as editor of the Puget Sound Business Journal\, the business weekly was a runner-up for a Pulitzer Prize. \nFor nearly 10 years George was an adjunct journalism instructor at Western Washington University.\nHe earned a bachelor’s in history from Hanover College and a master’s in journalism from the University of Oregon. \nGeorge is currently secretary of the Washington Coalition for Open Government\, a nonpartisan\, nonprofit advocate for transparency and informed citizens. He lives in Bellevue with his wife\, historical nonfiction author Mavis Amundson. \n_ \nBRIER DUDLEY\, SEATTLE TIMES \nBrier Dudley is editor of The Seattle Times Save the Free Press public service initiative. \nDudley has been with The Seattle Times since 1998 and was a member of the editorial board for five years. He has won numerous regional and national journalism awards. \n_ \nERAN KENNEDY\, PENINSULA DAILY NEWS\nEran Kennedy has been a media professional for nearly 40 years. After joining Sound Publishing in 2018\, she initially served as advertising director and was later promoted to regional publisher of the Peninsula Daily News\, Sequim Gazette and Forks Forum in 2023. \nA graduate of the British Columbia Institute of Technology\, Eran began her career in Vancouver\, B.C.\, with Elty Publications/VanPress\, where she rose to Operations Supervisor\, securing home delivery for over 500\,000 weekly newspapers across Vancouver’s lower mainland. Starting with the Sacramento Bee in 1857 (established by his great great grandfather)\, the company published the Bee and other California newspapers throughout its first 120 years.  Starting in the 1980’s\, McClatchy grew on a much larger scale acquiring newspapers throughout the US including The Miami Herald\, Charlotte Observer\, Kansas City Star and The Tacoma News Tribune.  In total the company owned and operated 30 daily newspapers. \nMaloney spent 22 years as a member of the McClatchy Board of Directors (1998-2020).  In addition\, he has been a Seattle Times Board member holding this position for 14 years. \nHow did Maloney settle on the Olympic Peninsula?  He had an Aunt and Uncle living in Port Angeles who he visited as a youngster.  He fell in love with the area and decided to do his first two years of college at Peninsula College.   Maloney eventually came back at age 30 and threw himself into what he knew best and loved most – the news media. \n_ \nEMMA MAPLE\, PENINSULA DAILY NEWS\nEmma Maple has been working at Peninsula Daily News as a general assignment reporter for about eight months\, ever since graduating from Whitworth University last spring with a degree in Communications and Peace Studies. Along the way\, he taught graduate students from the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs in Baku\, Azerbaijan where\, as a Fulbright Senior Specialist\, he explored political unrest and the cultural rise of the web. He taught for two months in Nanning\, China. \nRiski documented five national presidential conventions from both sides of the aisles. The first was as a guest of CSPAN. Later he gained media credentials thanks to KONP Radio and the generous support of the PC Foundation. \nHe worked as a reporter and photographer in central Ohio and Washington at the Peninsula Daily News\, beside freelancing. He earned a bachelor’s in natural resources from Ohio State University and a master’s in journalism from the University of Memphis. \nRiski is married to Cheryl Baumann\, a salmon restoration advocate and the father of Alden\, a surveyor and musician. They all serve at the pleasure of Clooney\, their most curious newshound. \n– \nABOUT THE OLYMPIC PENINSULA JOURNALISM FUND \nThe Olympic Peninsula Journalism Fund is a vital initiative aimed at supporting local journalism.
