Charlie Albright will be improvising a brand new piece (or two) for this fun\, interactive performance. The show will marry classical music\, improvised contemporary covers\, and new compositions created on the spot\, all performed with Charlie’s signature humor and high energy! \n\n\n\n\n\nHailed as “among the most gifted musicians of his generation” with a “dazzling natural keyboard affinity” who “made quite an impression” by the Washington Post\, American pianist\, composer\, and improviser Charlie Albright has been praised for his “jaw-dropping technique and virtuosity meshed with a distinctive musicality” by The New York Times\, and his “extravagance that had showmanship but never felt cheap” with his “ease and smoothness that refuses to airbrush the music\, but animates it from within” by the Philadelphia Inquirer. \nRecipient of the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant and Gilmore Young Artist Award\, Albright won the Ruhr Klavier Festival Young Artist Award presented by Marc-André Hamelin (Germany) and the Young Concert Artists International Auditions.  In addition to performing\, Albright is sought after as a speaker\, masterclass instructor\, teacher\, and competition judge.  His debut commercial recording\, Vivace\, has sold thousands of copies worldwide and the first two parts of a 3-part Schubert Series of live\, all-Schubert recordings was released in 2017 and 2020. \nAlbright’s compositions and improvisations have been likened to “the great Romantic-era composer-pianists” by Classical Source and have been praised as “thrilling” by the DC Metro Theatre Arts.  The Philadelphia Inquirer raved that he “brought the art of classical-music improvisation to a new level.”  The Boston Musical Intelligencer wrote simply that “Albright is a master of improvisation.”  \nField Hall is partnering with Clallam Resilience Project during this event; guests can interact with the Resilience Project team at their table in our lobby prior to the show. \nIn October\, Resilience Month showcases a series of events across the Olympic Peninsula focused on wellbeing and connection. Building upon Field Hall’s mission to be a home for arts and events that bring people together and strengthen community\, the AIR program shifts the organization beyond traditional presenting into a model of artistic creation and production. Artists are invited to the North Olympic Peninsula for extended residencies to develop new work while engaging deeply with local residents through workshops\, masterclasses\, lectures\, open rehearsals\, school visits\, and public performances. \nThrough partnerships with schools\, libraries\, senior centers\, cultural organizations\, and regional arts institutions\, the program creates meaningful opportunities for community members to participate in the creative process itself\, fostering lifelong learning and strengthening the cultural vitality of the region. \nJessie Montgomery will use her residency to advance the creative development of a new opera project intended for future production in partnership with the Metropolitan Opera. The residency will provide dedicated time for musical exploration\, collaboration\, and public engagement around the process of creating large-scale contemporary opera. \nABOUT NATHAN RØDAHL \nThree-time GRAMMY nominated Music Educator Nathan Rødahl has served as Director of Orchestras at Port Angeles High School for nearly a decade. He leads the program’s long-standing quadrennial tours to New York City and has expanded opportunities for North Olympic string players through international performance tours to Central Europe. \nNationally active in music education\, Rødahl served two terms as Northwest Chair on NAfME’s National Orchestra Council\, served as a Teacher Leader with the federally funded Connected Arts Networks (CAN)\, and is a nationally recognized presenter on emergent research and string pedagogy.  Locally\, he serves on the staff of the Wintergrass Festival Orchestra and cofounded the weekly Port Angeles Community String Jam. \nABOUT JESSIE MONTGOMERY \nJessie Montgomery is a GRAMMY® Award-winning composer\, violinist\, and educator whose work interweaves classical music with elements of vernacular music\, improvisation\, poetry\, and social consciousness\, establishing her as an acute interpreter of 21st-century American sound and experience. Named Performance Today’s 2025 Classical Woman of the Year\, her profound works have been described as “turbulent\, wildly colorful\, and exploding with life” (The Washington Post)\, and are performed regularly by leading orchestras\, ensembles\, and soloists around the world. \nA founding member of PUBLIQuartet and a former member of the Catalyst Quartet\, Montgomery is a frequent and highly engaged collaborator with performing musicians\, composers\, choreographers\, playwrights\, poets\, and visual artists alike. At the heart of Montgomery’s work is a deep sense of community enrichment and a desire to create opportunities for young artists and underrepresented composers to broaden audience experiences in classical music spaces. \nMontgomery has been recognized with many prestigious awards and fellowships\, including the Civitella Ranieri Fellowship\, the Sphinx Medal of Excellence and Sphinx Virtuosi Composer-in-Residence\, the Leonard Bernstein Award from the ASCAP Foundation\, and Musical America’s 2023 Composer of the Year. Morris Theater\n*Tickets $29.50 – $44.50 Adult\, $19.50 Youth | CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS\nFinancial assistance available – click here to apply \n*Our ticketing platform Ludus charges a 5% service fee for all card transactions. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \nImmerse yourself in the deep\, soothing and healing vibrations of the cello with world acclaimed one-man cello orchestra\, composer\, and multilingual vocalist Ian Maksin! \nIn this concert\, he will perform original instrumental music written throughout the years and recorded on several releases: Sempre\, Alchemist\, Amor Renatus\, and Lullaby for the World\, as well as many songs from his collection in 43 languages including French\, Spanish\, Italian\, Japanese\, Ukrainian\, Farsi and many more. \nMaksin’s original music transcends well beyond New Age and Neo-Classical\, as it encompasses elements of many genres from jazz to world music\, drawing inspiration from traditional African\, Mongolian and Middle Eastern Music\, from Mozart and Bach\, as well as from contemporary composers such as Astor Piazzolla and Ludovico Einaudi. Expanded by use of the loop pedal and other electronics to sound like a real orchestra\, his music will take you on a mystical spiritual journey through Tribal Africa\, Mongolia\, lands of North American natives\, and beyond. \nAbout Ian Maksin: ianmaksin.com\nInstagram: instagram.com/ianmaksin\nFacebook: facebook.com/cellomaxx\nYouTube: youtube.com/ianmaksin\nApple Music: music.apple.com/us/artist/ian-maksin/268783791\nSpotify: open.spotify.com/artist/2OdXXipsrskFeePBpIdtc2 \nBREAKING BOUNDARIES both musical and geographical\, cellist\, composer and multilingual vocalist IAN MAKSIN has created his own unique style by blending elements of different genres and traditional music from around the globe in a new way using his cello as the main unifying force. \nONE-MAN ORCHESTRA: In addition to cello\, he used an electronic device called the loop pedal\, which allows him to create “loops” or layers by recording and replaying his own playing in real time. \nSINGING IN 30 LANGUAGES: What began as a hobby and a passion for linguistics and travel has become part of a unique concert experience. At this time Ian Maksin sings in Ukrainian\, Polish\, Russian\, English\, Farsi\, Armenian\, French\, Italian\, Arabic\, Hebrew\, Mongolian\, Bambara (one of the tongues spoken in West Africa) and many other exotic languages. Most of this repertoire was amassed by Maksin during his world travels\, jam sessions and collaborations with local musicians. Many of his original songs and instrumental compositions are also infused with flavors of ethnic music from countries and regions where he drew inspiration from: Mongolia\, West Africa\, Middle East\, the Balkans\, Andalusian flamenco. \nTHE GLOBAL MUSICIAN: Ian Maksin was born in Leningrad\, former USSR\, into a multinational family and grew up absorbing many cultures and traditions from an early age. He began playing guitar and piano at age 3 and cello at age 6 at the School for Gifted Children in Leningrad and then came to the USA at 16 to continue studies at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City and Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. After working for many years in the classical genre including a three-year tenure with the New World Symphony in Miami Ian has decided to look for his own musical path. His diverse musical experience\, including playing rock and blues guitar and passion for jazz and world music has allowed him to take the cello to a new dimension and develop his own distinct style as a musician and composer. \nIn Ian’s own words: “At some point I realized that music is much more than mere entertainment. Music is one of most powerful and unifying forces in the world\, capable of healing\, inspiring\, bringing people together and bringing peace among them. I believe that cello will save the world”  \n\n\n\n\n\nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone. Financial assistance is available for this event through our #fieldhallforall program. SUMMARY:Ian Maksin: Songs of The Vagabond Cello
DESCRIPTION:Field Hall Presents: Ian Maksin\nThursday\, August 21st | Doors 5PM\, Performance 7PM\nTickets: Adult $25-$26.85\, Youth $10-$11.10*\, CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS\n*Our ticketing platform Ludus charges a 5% service fee for all credit card transactions. To avoid this fee\, visit our Box Office at 201 W. Front Street and pay via cash or check. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \nBREAKING BOUNDARIES both musical and geographical\, cellist\, composer and multilingual vocalist IAN MAKSIN has created his own unique style by blending elements of different genres and traditional music from around the globe in a new way using his cello as the main unifying force. I believe that cello will save the world”  \n\n\n\n\n\n

She lives physically in the day\, and ethereally in the evening\, with full feeling and empathy for all of her past and future selves.  As a human\, she is simply known as Stephanie Lee Kernes-Reaume-Batson-LaRonge-Doenges.   She is a multi instrumental classically trained musician and vocalist.  One time\, she won a competition.  At another time\, she was locally known as ‘The Singing EMT’ on youtube.  These days\, she’s known as the lead singer and guitar player and flute player and harmonica player and uke player for Bread & Gravy.   She’s also known as an artist who paints mandala art paintings.  She’s also known as a sound tech\, and runs sound for the Open Mic at the Field Hall\, as well as for her own shows.  In the past\, she was in local bands such as ‘Restless’\, ‘Luck of the Draw’\, and ‘Rolling Waters.’ \nJess Doenges:  piano/God :  At 13 years old\, Jess worked in a gas station.  13 years after that\, he realized he wanted to learn to play the piano.  13 years after that\, he started playing piano professionally.  13 years after that\, he wrote this show.  In the midst of those years\, Jess completely mastered spoken word\, slam poetry\, songwriting\, poker\, and fantasy football.  Playing God has been very humbling for him\, as he always thought he was above such things. \nOwl Chrysalis Medicine:  Narrator/Time Lord :  Owl Medicine is a multi instrumentalist and best selling trauma author and educator.  His music mirrors his writing in its unabashed and powerful approach to vulnerability.  He busked his way through England\, France\, Spain\, and Scotland\, but has found his forever home here on the Olympic Peninsula.  You can find him teaching workshops and performing his unique genre that he calls ’emotive acoustic’. \nJustin Ridle:  random 1950s guy :  After years of annoying his parents with his nonstop vocals\, Justin’s mother and father had the good sense to put Justin in a choir\, and he has never looked back.  For two decades\, Justin sang in theatre:  From opera to rock reviews.. From Australia to Disney World to the National Cathedral in D.C\, he splattered the world with his beautiful and soulful voice.  These days\, he sings on his farm\, in his barn\, on the river\, with friends around campfires\, and habitually hosts gatherings with many of the most talented and unique people on this planet.  His infectious spirit and genuine interest in lifting up those around him make him a person to know fondly. \nJesse Ahmann:  cellist/random 13th century human:   As a classically trained cellist\, and having been surrounded by music all his life\, Jesse has always dreamt of being a composer. He has since learned multiple instruments and frequently uses them in his compositions\, realizing that dream\, working as a film composer\, meditative music writer\, and successful YouTube musician. He loves to convey emotion\, both in the undercurrents of his music and the melodies. He has performed as principal cellist for numerous symphonies across the Northwest\, and also performed at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center; additionally\, he was a featured artist on National Public Radio’s (NPR’s) “All Things Considered.” His musical credits include performances throughout Europe\, Asia\, Central\, and South America.   Locally\, he performs with musical groups such as ‘The Ahmann Brothers’ and ‘Topia Vana’.   Jesse has also started playing standup bass with Bread & Gravy\, and he’s already nearly as accomplished with it\, as he is with the cello.  He has played in exotic places\, such as Quilcene and Chimacum\, in front of tens\, if not dozens\, of people. \nIsabelle Rose:  keyboards/space person:  From a galaxy far far away in Los Angeles California. Isabelle Rose started her musical journey with keyboards in the year 1977.  She was 4 years old the first time she went to see Star wars! When she got home\, she started playing on her dad’s keyboards and baby grand piano.  Since then\, she has evolved in her playing of musical covers\, as well as her original compositions\, with inspiration from Duran Duran\, ELO\, Led Zeppelin\, and Dream Theater.  For years\, she’s been wowing local audiences with her extremely unique and highly entertaining one person show. \nJason Taylor:  bass player/random 1960s human:   Jason is a bass player and vocalist hailing from the Pacific Northwest whose eclectic musical influences are apparent through his playing\, and is constantly working to push the boundaries of his musical understanding. He is most known for his playing with the band Bread & Gravy\, and more recently for his time with Tuff Puffin. When not playing music\, Jason can usually be found foraging or growing gourmet mushrooms.  Seriously. \nJerry Gilleland:  drummer/pirate from 1800s:   Jerry Gilleland\, known to everyone as the kindest musician on the Olympic Peninsula\, is a multi instrumentalist who has been playing drums since 1976.  He taught high school percussion and private lessons for 5 years.  He has been in roughly 100 bands and has played just about every musical style that exists.  He is nicknamed ‘lint’\, because he is always ‘in the pocket’.  As a life highlight\, he allegedly went to a raging party with Jerry Garcia’s dog walker. \nVienna Baron:  Harmony/Random Human: Vienna is one of the Harmony Honey Buns and has been singing with Bread and Gravy for a little over a year. She is a classically trained vocalist and attended Berkley College of Music in Boston\, MA and Western Washington University in Bellingham\, WA as a music major. She plays several different instruments\, has her own band (Olympic Generations)\, and they have been together for over 15 years. Her musical influences are mostly classic country artists such as Glen Cambell\, The Judds\, and The Sons of the Pioneers. She also enjoys some of the tight harmonies from Motown and blue grass. While in high school and college\, she has participated in musical theater and in multiple community choruses\, singing different parts depending on the need: soprano\, alto and/or tenor. She loves listening to a wide variety of music from classical to contemporary worship and pop music.  She loves performing and collaborating with other artists from our musical community.  Her favorite color is All of Them. \nKathy Corriel:  Harmony/Random Human:   Kathy is recently retired and a late bloomer in the local music scene\, although she’s been singing harmony since before she knew what it was.  She grew up in a very musical family and would often sing along with songs from the 40s to the 70s (the ‘Wonder Years’ of music).   She has been a soprano in several worship bands from the age of 17\, and also performed with Port Angeles Community Chorus in a production of ‘Handel’s Messiah’ and other classic operatic pieces.  Currently\, she feels blessed to be part of the Bread & Gravy family and the thriving local music community.   She loves Art\, Music\, Cats\, and PBJ sandwiches with cold milk.
