SUMMARY:Sam Grisman Project
DESCRIPTION:Field Hall Presents: Sam Grisman Project\nFriday\, December 19th @ 7:30PM | Donna M. Morris Theater\n*Tickets $45-$60 Adult | Financial assistance available – click here to apply\n*Our ticketing platform Ludus charges a 5% service fee for all credit card transactions. To avoid this fee\, visit our Box Office at 201 W. Front Street and pay via cash or check. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \nField Arts & Events Hall is delighted to welcome Sam Grisman back to the Donna M. Morris Theater for a special evening with friends! \nSAM GRISMAN ON HIS PROJECT:\nThe music that my father David Grisman and his close friend\, Jerry Garcia\, made in the early 90s (in the house that I grew up in) is not only some of the most timeless acoustic music ever recorded\, it also triggers my oldest and fondest musical memories. What I find most inspiring about this material is the way their camaraderie and their love and joy for the music\, simply oozes out of each recording. It is also impressive how deeply they get beneath their favorite songs—whether they are originals\, covers or traditional/old time tunes—and how expertly that material was curated. \nMy goal in starting Sam Grisman Project is to build a platform for my friends and me to showcase our genuine passion and appreciation for the legacy of Dawg and Jerry’s music. By playing some of their beloved repertoire and sharing the original music that our own collective has to offer\, we will also show the impact that this music has had on our own individual  musical voices. Ultimately\, there is nothing that makes me happier than playing great songs with my best friends and my hope is to share that happiness with audiences all over! \nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone. Financial assistance is available for this event through our #fieldhallforall program. Patrons can request a discount of up to 100%. Click here to apply for financial assistance.

SUMMARY:A Christmas Carol: A JFFA In Harmony event
DESCRIPTION:Presented in partnership with Juan de Fuca Foundation for the Arts\nA Christmas Carol: A JFFA In Harmony event \nWednesday\, December 17th @ 7PM | Donna M. Morris Theater\nTickets $22 – $28  CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS \nJFFA and Field Hall are proud to present this partner event as part of our IN HARMONY series.  Allen Fitzpatrick wows in this one-hour solo adaptation. \nFor the 5th year in a row\, renowned stage actor Allen Fitzpatrick presents his solo adaptation of Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” \n“I was completely absorbed for the entire hour\, and at the end\, very deeply moved.” \nAllen follows in the footsteps of its author who\, a few years after writing the novella\, began public readings of it which he continued to perform until the year of his death. \nThis story has been represented in over a hundred adaptations for stage\, film\, opera\, and radio. In Allen’s version\, audiences have the opportunity to use the full range of their imagination as one actor— on a virtually bare stage— creates 26 different characters. Audiences have been delighted by the personal\, individual impact which this approach affords. \nDickens’ novella captures the zeitgeist of the mid-Victorian revival of the Christmas holiday\, popularizing many aspects of Christmas celebration— including family gatherings\, seasonal food and drink\, dancing\, games\, and a festive generosity of spirit. And it shows the path by which selfish\, acquisitive men may redeem themselves.  Its most important theme\, however— all too relevant today— is to shine a glaring light on mistreatment of the poor. Dickens wrote his novella in response to British social attitudes towards poverty. He was compelled to show the repercussions of ignoring the poor— especially children— in poverty.

Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \n“Urgent\, relevant music\,” – BBC  \nLas Cafeteras returns to Field Arts & Events Hall for a Dia de Los Muertos concert with repertoire from Hasta La Muerte\, an enthralling new production celebrating Life and Death\, in the spirit of the Indigenous/Mexican practice\, known as Day of the Dead. \nThis theatrical concert explores the stages of grief and loss through the celebration of life and death. The production revisits Mexican folklore to tell new stories\, engage old archetypes\, challenge patriarchy\, uplift the role of curanderas and re-examine our imagination about “death” and the “after-life.” \nEmbrace the power of storytelling as a form of processing grief and sharing love with those in the beyond. Love\, not sadness\, allows us to celebrate and remember those that have gone and remember that “death is not the end\, it is just the beginning.” \nABOUT LAS CAFETERAS\nLas Cafeteras have taken the music scene by storm with their infectious live performances and have crossed many genres and borders along the way. Their electric sound & energy has taken them around the world playing shows from Bonnaroo to the Hollywood Bowl\, WOMAD New Zealand to Montreal Jazz\, & beyond! \nBorn and raised East of the Los Angeles River\, Las Cafeteras are remixing roots music as modern day troubadours.  They are a sonic explosion of Afro-Mexican rhythms\, electronic beats and powerful rhymes that document stories of a community seeking to ‘build a world where many world fit.’ \nFrom Afro-Mexican to Americana\, from Soul to Son Jarocho\, from Roots to Rock and Hip Hop\, Las Cafeteras take folk music to the future. \nLas Cafeteras honor the past by using electrifying traditional instrumentation like the 8 string Jarana\, 4 string Requinto\, Quijada (donkey jawbone) and Tarima (a wooden platform). Las Cafeteras sing in 5 distinct languages\, English\, Spanish\, Spanglish\, Love and Justice … and they believe everyone understands at least one of those languages. \nThey’ve performed in the good company of Mexican icons Café Tacuba\, Natalia LaFourcade\, Lila Downs\, Gypsy Kings\, Colombian superstar Juanes\, Hip Hop artist Common\, Los Angeles legends Ozomatli and Los Lobos\, performing with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra\, and many more. \nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone. DESCRIPTION:Field Hall Presents: TAE & The Neighborly\nWednesday\, September 24 @ 7PM | Sunset Lounge Dance Party\n*Tickets $20\, General Admission | Financial assistance available – click here to apply\n*Our ticketing platform Ludus charges a 5% service fee for all credit card transactions. To avoid this fee\, visit our Box Office at 201 W. Front Street and pay via cash or check. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \nCelebrate the start of fall with one final summer-style dance party and happy hour in the Sunset Lounge! This general admission event will offer a dance floor with plenty of room to boogie\, and Happy Hour specials from 5PM – 6:30PM before the music starts. \nTAE & The Neighborly\, a Wisconsin based Soul-pop R&B group\, found themselves playing music together in a very unconventional way. \nThey were all neighbors\, each one living alone on one floor of a five-story flat. Cake baking is a shared passion of the five member group\, but in the sugar shortages early in the 2020 pandemic\, they found themselves so continually knocking on each other’s doors asking for a single cup of sugar that a group decision was made to all move in together and share cake-baking resources. And since everyone knows all good rhythms begin in the kitchen\, it wasn’t before long that the group began to write and perform together  across the nation. \nCritics hail the group as “having more kick than a bagged-up mule” (Rotary Times)  and their live show “…going down smoother than a can of [beans] warmed on the campfire” (Cowboy Gazette). All in all\, if you are looking for a dense show that will give you more inspiration fuel for self lovin’\, world changin’\, and consideration havin’ meet them where the music is made to be shared. \nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone. SUMMARY:Lucky & The Locals
DESCRIPTION:Field Hall Presents: Lucky & The Locals\nFriday\, August 22nd | Doors 5PM\, Performance 7:30PM | Happy Hour Specials from 5PM-6:30PM\nVIP Tables $40 | General Admission Free\, Donations Appreciated \nGeneral admission seating is first-come\, first-served. This is a Sunset Lounge event with dance floor and bar service throughout the evening.  \nJoin Lucky & The Locals for a summer dance party in the Sunset Lounge at Field Hall! Doors open at 5PM\, music begins at 7PM. Reserved VIP tables are available for $40 – all other seating is first-come\, first-served and by donation. Happy hour menu and specials available 5PM – 6:30PM. \n“The Locals” is a stripped down version of Joel Ricci’s wildly popular “Funkways” ensemble featuring West Seattle All Stars Olli Klomp (Oscillators) on drums and Jason Gray (Polyrhythmics) on electric bass. The twist is Jason Cressey (Monophonics) takes up the Guitar and Lucky himself plays electric piano. Think Meters meets Hailu Mergia at a backyard barbecue. \nAmerican music artist\, Joel Ricci (fka Lucky Brown)\, writes and records in his tiny forest cabin in the foothills of the North Olympic Mountains on the Olympic peninsula of Washington State. As a songwriter\, composer\, arranger\, recording artist\, and professional session and touring trumpet player he has worked as both leader and sideman in many groups for over 20 years. \nJoel has traveled with nationally touring acts such as Portland’s MarchFourth Marching Band\, Orgone from Los Angeles\, and Moksha from Las Vegas. Recently\, an original song of his\, in collaboration with Seattle’s Polyrhythmics\, has been licensed for use in a major Jordan Peele motion picture directed by and starring Dev Patel. \nHe graduated with a bachelor’s degree in music composition from Eastern Washington University in 1999 and has performed in the Peninsula College Jazz band while studying composition and arranging under the tutelage of Dr. David P. Jones. \nAmong his dynamic studio experiments and performance situations\, his former stage/production persona\, ‘Lucky Brown’\, is probably the most widely-recognized via his relationship with German boutique funk and jazz record label\, Tramp Records\, for whom Joel has written\, arranged\, recorded\, produced and licensed more than two-dozen vinyl 45RPM singles as well as six full-length albums and EPs. This relationship has led to Ricci being hailed by music mavens worldwide as a “deep funk pioneer.” \nIn addition to his prolific output of original jazz\, funk\, blues\, and soul compositions\, Joel’s trumpet has appeared on hundreds of independent recordings. One special feature of Joel’s original music is that it comes directly from the heart\, and carries with it the gravity of spiritual and cultural consequence. This sentiment is echoed by the handful of Pacific Northwest rhythmic groups who cover his original tunes as nightly staples in their live show.

SUMMARY:Ian Maksin: Songs of The Vagabond Cello
DESCRIPTION:Field Hall Presents: Ian Maksin\nThursday\, August 21st | Doors 5PM\, Performance 7PM\nTickets: Adult $25-$26.85\, Youth $10-$11.10*\, CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS\n*Our ticketing platform Ludus charges a 5% service fee for all credit card transactions. To avoid this fee\, visit our Box Office at 201 W. Front Street and pay via cash or check. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \nBREAKING BOUNDARIES both musical and geographical\, cellist\, composer and multilingual vocalist IAN MAKSIN has created his own unique style by blending elements of different genres and traditional music from around the globe in a new way using his cello as the main unifying force. \nONE-MAN ORCHESTRA: In addition to cello\, he used an electronic device called the loop pedal\, which allows him to create “loops” or layers by recording and replaying his own playing in real time. \nSINGING IN 30 LANGUAGES: What began as a hobby and a passion for linguistics and travel has become part of a unique concert experience. At this time Ian Maksin sings in Ukrainian\, Polish\, Russian\, English\, Farsi\, Armenian\, French\, Italian\, Arabic\, Hebrew\, Mongolian\, Bambara (one of the tongues spoken in West Africa) and many other exotic languages. Most of this repertoire was amassed by Maksin during his world travels\, jam sessions and collaborations with local musicians. Many of his original songs and instrumental compositions are also infused with flavors of ethnic music from countries and regions where he drew inspiration from: Mongolia\, West Africa\, Middle East\, the Balkans\, Andalusian flamenco. \nTHE GLOBAL MUSICIAN: Ian Maksin was born in Leningrad\, former USSR\, into a multinational family and grew up absorbing many cultures and traditions from an early age. He began playing guitar and piano at age 3 and cello at age 6 at the School for Gifted Children in Leningrad and then came to the USA at 16 to continue studies at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City and Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. After working for many years in the classical genre including a three-year tenure with the New World Symphony in Miami Ian has decided to look for his own musical path. His diverse musical experience\, including playing rock and blues guitar and passion for jazz and world music has allowed him to take the cello to a new dimension and develop his own distinct style as a musician and composer. \nIn Ian’s own words: “At some point I realized that music is much more than mere entertainment. Music is one of most powerful and unifying forces in the world\, capable of healing\, inspiring\, bringing people together and bringing peace among them. I believe that cello will save the world”  \n\n\n\n\n\n
