SUMMARY:Open Mic Mondays hosted by Bread & Gravy Duo
DESCRIPTION:Field Arts & Events Hall welcomes you to share your talent on our Sunset Lounge stage! Join us for Open Mic Mondays in the Sunset Lounge\, hosted by Bread & Gravy Duo. \nThe Sunset Bar & Lounge opens to the public at 5PM and will serve small bites and drinks throughout the event. Signup for open mic begins at 6PM; open mic starts at 6:15PM. This is a free\, all-ages event – no RSVP or ticket required. \nABOUT BREAD & GRAVY\nBread & Gravy Duo is a popular husband and wife act (Stephanie and Jess Doenges) who perform songs across many styles and genres. They feature powerful female vocals\, eclectic piano\, rhythm guitar\, and the occasional flute and harmonica. They have hosted or cohosted many Open Mics on the peninsula\, including ‘Open Mic at the Buzz’\, ‘The Junction Open Jam’\, ‘The Rainshadow Open Mic’\, and most recently at ‘Open Mic at the Sit-N-Bull’. They often play as a bigger band\, adding steady stalwarts such as Jerry Gilleland (drums) and Jason Taylor (bass and harmonies) and have also collaborated with dozens of other local musicians\, so one never knows who will come sit in with them on a given night. Follow @breadandgravymusic for more. \nSTEPHANIE DOENGES (SOUND)\nStephanie is one of the most established and recognized musicians on the peninsula. She has been playing music since a young age\, and has been in local bands such as Restless\, Luck of the Draw\, Rolling Waters\, and the Cornstalks. For the past twelve years\, she has been the face and voice of Bread and Gravy in all of its formations. While her voice is a main draw\, and guitar is her most common instrument\, she often surprises and astounds with riveting flute and harmonica solos. \nStephanie has run sound for Open Mics for many years now\, and she’s grown very adept at dialing people in quickly\, as well as tailoring the sound to any nuance the performer displays. \nJESS DOENGES (MC)\nJess is the quintessential late bloomer\, who didn’t touch a musical instrument until age 29. Bread & Gravy is the first and only band he’s ever been in. In juxtaposition to the versatile Stephanie\, he’s a one trick pony on the piano. But his love for piano\, and his love for Stephanie shows through in his playing\, and he has truly played himself into one of the top accompanists around. As an MC\, he has tons of experience herding cats (err.. musicians) to make the Open Mic experience enjoyable and fair for all involved. His quick wit and inviting vibe tend to make the audience comfortable and relaxed\, which is what is needed to have a supportive environment for all performers.

SUMMARY:Jenner Fox: A John Prine Christmas
DESCRIPTION:Jenner Fox: A John Prine Christmas\nSaturday\, December 14 @ 7PM | Donna M. Morris Theater\nTickets $25-$50 Adult\, $15 Youth CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS \nEver wonder what John Prine has to do with Christmas? Ever wished the beloved songwriter had more to do with sleigh bells\, eggnog\, and Old Saint Nick? \nIn 1994 Prine released his 11th LP titled\, “A John Prine Christmas.” The critics didn’t acclaim it much\, but with titles such as “Silent Night All Day Long ” and “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus\,” it’s still Prine at his lovely wry best\, bringing Christmas home. \nWe are proud to present “A John Prine Christmas” – a night of your favorite songs featuring folk troubadour and Prine scholar\, Jenner Fox\, with his all-star band. The evening will weave together Prine’s classic hits\, his holiday themed songs\, stories\, and lots of singing along. Come prepared to laugh and cry and ho ho ho your way through celebrating a true American original. \n \nABOUT THE ARTISTS (www.jennerfox.com)\nMade up of members from Pacific Northwest groups Polecat\, Petty or Not and Skillethead\, the Jenner Fox Band first assembled for a 240 mile cargo bicycle tour across Northern California in 2021. It clicked. They shared a sensibility for deep listening\, three part harmonies\, John Prine\, and flat tires. Americana UK calls their most recent LP\, “Evocative and revelatory…reminiscent of children’s books much loved by adults.” This band is not one to be missed.

Dance on the dance floor\, choose from themed specialty cocktails and mocktails\, and grab a bite from our Sunset Lounge menu! \nStop Making Sense brings to the screen Talking Heads at Hollywood’s Pantages Theater in December 1983: David Byrne\, Tina Weymouth\, Chris Frantz\, and Jerry Harrison\, alongside backing singers Lynn Mabry and Ednah Holt\, guitarist Alex Weir\, keyboardist Bernie Worrell and percussionist Steve Scales. Regarded as the best concert film of all time\, renowned filmmaker Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lambs) captures the band at their exhilarating best\, in this new and complete restoration for the film’s 40th anniversary. \n \nStop Making Sense was shot while Talking Heads were on tour promoting their 1983 album\, Speaking in Tongues. Stop Making Sense includes performances of the early Talking Heads single\, “Psycho Killer” (1977)\, through to their most recent hit at the time\, “Burning Down the House” (1983). It also includes songs from the solo career of frontman David Byrne and by Tom Tom Club\, the side project of drummer Chris Frantz and bassist Tina Weymouth. \nIn 2021\, Stop Making Sense was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally\, historically\, or aesthetically significant.”  A special 4K restoration of the film was re-released in theaters in September 2023 by A24; this event will show the restored version. \nField Arts & Events Hall does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Noche Flamenca\, La Ronde (Entre Tu y Yo)
DESCRIPTION:Field Hall Presents: Noche Flamenca\, La Ronde (Entre Tu y Yo)\nSaturday\, March 1 @ 7PM | Donna M. Morris Theater\nTickets $35-$75  CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS \nFlamenco in its purest form: an evening of duets\, solos\, and company pieces by Martín Santangelo\, Soledad Barrio\, and Noche Flamenca. \nSoledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca\, the renowned company founded by Artistic Director Martín Santangelo and dancer Soledad Barrio\, return with a new version of La Ronde (Between You and Me)\, an evening-length program of duets and ensemble works. \nApollinaire Scherr\, in a review for The Financial Times\, described La Ronde “as flamenco puro—the Spanish art stripped to its flammable core.” Brian Seibert wrote in The New York Times\, “The visual design is no more elaborate than cafe chairs and a spotlight. The wonderful musicians and the dancers’ feet are barely amplified. That’s all in accord with the company aesthetic: bare bones\, nothing to hide behind\, nothing to get in the way.”  \n“La Ronde\,” a work inspired by Max Ophüls’ 1950 film\, and the dizzying carousel of romantic and sexual relationships it presents\, that Noche Flamenca has been developing for four years. True to the company’s boundary-pushing and emotionally probing style\, in “La Ronde\,” artistic director and choreographer Martin Santangelo uses a series of duets to explore love\, hate\, jealousy\, and death. The piece draws inspiration from Ingmar Bergman’s Persona\, the pianist James Booker\, the story of Cain and Abel\, Demeter & Persephone\, and other sources\, in addition to Ophüls. \nAlso part of the program is “Refugiados” (“Refugees”)\, created from poems by children in refugee camps. To develop “Refugiados”—first created 15 years ago\, and further developed for the engagement at the Connelly—Santangelo and the company took the children’s poems\, translated them to Spanish\, and set them to song and dance. \nFinally\, La Ronde includes Soledad’s Barrio’s signature\, “Soleá\,” which exemplifies the catharsis at the heart of flamenco. In it\, she displays the singular artistry Tobi Tobias attributed to her in ArtsJournal\, where she wrote\, “What woman could hold a candle to Soledad Barrio? In modern dance\, Isadora Duncan and Martha Graham. In ballet\, maybe Nora Kaye\, in her Tudor roles. Certainly no one we can go and see today has Barrio’s transformative power.”
