SUMMARY:NATURAL STRUCTURES | A Solo Exhibition by Steve Belz
DESCRIPTION:NATURAL STRUCTURES | A Solo Exhibition by Steve Belz\nOn Display November 6-January 16 | The Laura Cooksey Gallery at Field Hall\nFREE ADMISSION \n\n\n\n\nField Hall presents NATURAL STRUCTURES\, a solo-exhibit featuring Port Angeles artist Steve Belz. Steve Belz is a ceramic artist\, educator\, and sculptor whose work explores our relationship with the natural world and the ways in which we perceive\, interpret\, and transform our environment. \nBelz’s work is informed by his experiences exploring the Olympic Peninsula. An avid observer of the landscape\, he draws inspiration from the forms\, textures\, patterns\, and colors he encounters in his daily life. These observations become the starting point for abstract organic sculptures that move between recognizable natural references and imagined forms. \n\n\n\nBelz combines and transforms these observations through his process\, sometimes interpreting and modifying forms and at other times incorporating them directly as tools for creating texture and surface. NATURAL STRUCTURES will be on display November 6th – January 16th. \nGallery hours are 10AM – 2PM Monday through Saturday. Free admission\, donations are appreciated and support future exhibits. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \nThe only way for a story to progress is to turn the page. \nJohn Ondrasik— the songwriter and performer known as the platinum-selling\, Grammy-nominated\, Five For Fighting—knows this well. In the two decades since his first major single\, “Superman (It’s Not Easy)\,” hit the stratosphere\, the artist has both evolved and come back ‘round full circle. \nTo date\, Five For Fighting\, has released six studio LPs\, including the platinum certified America Town and The Battle for Everything; and the top-10 charting Two Lights\, along with an EP and live albums. Ondrasik has penned major hits\, including the chart-topping “100 Years\,” “The Riddle\,” “Chances\,” “World\,” and “Easy Tonight\,” which have earned over one billion streams and place him as a top-10 Hot Adult Contemporary artist for the 2000s. The reflective “100 Years” has joined “Superman (It’s Not Easy)” as part of the American Songbook and continues to stand the test of time at weddings\, birthdays\, graduations\, memorials\, and many a home video. Five For Fighting’s music has also been featured in more than 350 films\, television shows\, and commercials\, including the Oscar-winning The Blind Side\, Hawaii Five-O\, The Sopranos and the CBS drama\, Code Black. \nReferencing Fight For Fighting’s success in the 2000s\, AllMusic called Ondrasik “one of the decade’s leading balladeers.” But perhaps his biggest achievement is performing “Superman (It’s Not Easy)\,” at the 2001 Concert for New York\, a benefit show at Madison Square Garden that honored first responders and the fallen about a month after the tragic September 11th attacks. Ondrasik performed alongside other big -name artists like Paul McCartney\, The Who\, Elton John\, Billy Joel\, and dozens more. \nBuoyed by his unique falsetto voice and his prowess on the piano —a skill bestowed to him by his piano teacher mother—Ondrasik has made a solid reputation for himself in the world of songwriting and performance\, selling upwards of three million albums over his career. Not only does he tour with his popular string quartet and play solo and rock band gigs\, but he is also a high demand keynote\nspeaker in which he combines themes of creativity and innovation with his business acumen. He’s presented at TEDx\, The Salk Institute\, American Cancer Society\, and dozens more. \nSupport -Lace and Lee \nLace & Lee is a folk rock duo heavily influenced by the mystical wisdom of 60s and 70s storytelling\, with a twist of humor and bard-like prose. Caroline Lace and Olivia Lee began their musical journey at NYU Tisch\, and have since toured with Five For Fighting. Their ethereal vocals and risky harmonies carry the spirit and charm of Celtic music\, often holding a mirror up to the 21st century. \nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone. SUMMARY:Miko Marks
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, January 24 @ 2PM | Donna M. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \n*Theater doors open 30 minutes prior to showtimes. \n\n“This song [“The Other Side”] is a bridge linking the old America\, where spirituals arose as maps toward liberation\, and the blues that came from those journeys — and the new kind of country music artists like Marks are creating today. The grit in her majestic voice speaks of those other journeys\, lost and found.” – NPR \nJoin Field Hall for an afternoon of hopeful Americana\, country\, gospel and blues with chart-topping musician Miko Marks. \nRolling Stone has called Miko Marks’ voice a “marvelous instrument that imbues each song with a kind of hard-won authority.” Across a career defined by resilience\, reinvention\, and a refusal to let the music industry dictate where she belongs\, Marks has built a singular musical identity rooted in country\, gospel\, blues\, and soul. \nBorn and raised in Flint\, Michigan\, she is a granddaughter of the Great Migration whose Southern family roots and musical upbringing continue to inform her work. “Blues is a part of who I am\,” Marks says. “It’s woven into my upbringing\, my experiences\, and my musical journey.” \nOn October 30\, Marks will release Hell Or High Water\, her first blues album\, via Redtone Records. Produced by longtime collaborator Justin Phipps and written by Marks and Phipps\, the album emerged from a period of profound personal change\, including the end of Marks’ 29-year marriage and the beginning of her journey with sobriety. Through songs confronting loss\, grief\, injustice\, and uncertainty\, Marks holds fiercely to hope\, healing\, and the joy she has found on the other side. “These songs acknowledge the darkness without surrendering to it\,” she says. \nAfter a 14-year break from recording\, Marks returned with Our Country in 2021\, followed by 2022’s Feel Like Going Home\, which reached the Top 10 on the Americana charts. She has since performed multiple times at the Grand Ole Opry\, appeared at Stagecoach\, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass\, MerleFest\, and Ottawa Bluesfest\, and shared stages with Tedeschi Trucks Band\, Little Feat\, The War and Treaty\, and more. \n\nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone.
