This year\, Yodelin will be offering samples from their menu. \nÉtrange Mélange is a snowboard film that can be characterized as a strange mix of reckless youth and wise mentors who brew an elaborate concoction. The film is directed by Olivier Gittler\, ex-professional snowboarder and Content Creator for Analog Film Production\, and produced by Matteo Soltane\, engineer\, Team Rider and Marketing Facilitator for Mervin Manufacturing. A brainchild of GNU\, the film features local legends and up and comers like Temple Cummins and his son Cannon along with many other talented riders. The film was shot in Canada\, Japan and at Mount Baker. \nPoma and Beyond…Strange Mix was produced by Tim Stanford of Mervin Manufacturing. All three of Ingrid’s recordings have received the Storytelling World Gold Seal for listeners of all ages: Her audio recording collection of ghost stories\, Lost Hearts and Other Creepy Stories\, is perfect for a dark and stormy night. Grimm’s with a Twist\, offers deliciously dark stories spiced liberally with humor and pathos. Operation Bouncy Chair\, features personal stories about the important things in life: family\, love\, and coffee. She is a champion liar many times over\, a claim that made her mother both proud and worried. She hosts a public radio program in Alaska called\, Story Borealis\, which is dedicated to the art of oral storytelling. She’s also a Seattle Moth Story SLAM winner. \nIngrid had a long\, fruitful career as a National Park Service ranger at Denali\, Glacier Bay and Mount Rainier national parks. She has received national kudos for the numerous films she has written\, hosted\, and/or narrated for Discovery Channel and the National Park Service. Weaving narrative layers throughout\, Oluo shares deeply personal reflections and darkly humorous accounts of strangers\, acquaintances\, and friends that conjoin with the music to create a singular\, transcendent experience. The Things Around Us is an evening that will draw you in and remind you of the beauty in life. \nIn The Things Around Us\, Oluo continues their practice of layering live music and narrative\, but departs from their previously epic ensemble work and highly personal stories to create\, instead\, an intimate solo show about other people. \nCombining experimental jazz\, new music\, Nigerian hi-life\, and electronic looping with bizarre and darkly humorous accounts of strangers and acquaintances\, Oluo draws out larger social and political meanings from those encounters\, weaving together a tapestry of characters and existential inquiries with dynamic multi-instrumental compositions\, using trumpet\, clarinet\, vocals\, looping/effects pedals\, and cardboard shipping boxes for percussion. \nThe Things Around Us began as a 15-minute video piece produced during the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020\, supported by a Mellon Creative Research Fellowship with University of Washington’s Meany Center. It has been further developed through early-stage showings at Black-centered cultural spaces LANGSTON and Wa Na Wari in Seattle\, residencies at MacDowell\, Yaddo\, and Seattle Rep. \nThe Things Around Us was supported by a commissioning grant from The Map Fund. \nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone. DONATIONS APPRECIATED\nOur rock-themed fall film series continues with the ultimate metal movie: This is Spinal Tap! We encourage you to dress up in your best 80s or hair-metal band inspired look and rock out with us for an evening that’s turned all the way up to eleven. \nThe mockumentary comedy by Rob Reiner\, Christopher Guest\, Michael McKean\, and Harry Shearer\, This Is Spinal Tap chronicles England’s loudest and most punctual band on their disaster-filled U.S. tour. \nThis Is Spinal Tap was released to critical acclaim in 1984 and went on to become a cult classic. In 2002\, it was deemed “culturally\, historically\, and aesthetically significant” by the Library of Congress\, and was selected for preservation by the National Film Registry. \nThis Is Spinal Tap has been credited with launching the mockumentary genre. The film shines a light on the self-contained universe of a metal band struggling to get back on the charts\, including everything from its complicated history of ups and downs\, gold albums\, name changes and undersold concert dates\, along with the full host of requisite groupies\, promoters\, hangers-on and historians\, sessions\, release events and those special behind-the-scenes moments that keep it all real. This screening is hosted in celebration of the release of Spinal Tap II: The End Continues\, scheduled for theatrical release September 12th. \nDoors open at 5PM; food and drink available for purchase through the Sunset Bar & Lounge.
