Along with Étrange Mélange\, we will be showing a short featuring Hurricane Ridge titled\, Poma and Beyond…Strange Mix. The films will be shown Friday\, November 14th at Field Arts & Events Hall in Port Angeles. Doors open at 5:00 pm for drinks and light fare in the Sunset Lounge and the film will begin at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $20 at the door\, $15 in advance\, and $10 for children 18 and under and college students with student ID. Tickets can be purchased online at www.hurricaneridge.com. Both films are not yet rated. \nIn addition to the films\, The Hurricane Ridge Winter Sports Education Foundation will be hosting a raffle with over $1000 in prizes and the Education Foundation\, NxNW Surf and GNU will have information tables and merchandise for sale. This year\, Yodelin will be offering samples from their menu. \nÉtrange Mélange is a snowboard film that can be characterized as a strange mix of reckless youth and wise mentors who brew an elaborate concoction. The film is directed by Olivier Gittler\, ex-professional snowboarder and Content Creator for Analog Film Production\, and produced by Matteo Soltane\, engineer\, Team Rider and Marketing Facilitator for Mervin Manufacturing. A brainchild of GNU\, the film features local legends and up and comers like Temple Cummins and his son Cannon along with many other talented riders. The film was shot in Canada\, Japan and at Mount Baker. \nPoma and Beyond…Strange Mix was produced by Tim Stanford of Mervin Manufacturing. It is a mixture of archival Ridge footage and HomeSchool Video from throughout the years along with present day high level top action shredding. Poma and Beyond…Strange Mix is sure to not disappoint. \nThis event is sponsored and supported by the Hurricane Ridge Winter Sports Education Foundation\, Yodelin\, NxNW Surf\, PA Far West Hydraulics and Field Arts & Events Hall. Join storyteller Ingrid Nixon for an evening of dark tales\, bound to produce delightful shivers. This evening of storytelling in the Sunset Lounge will focus on spooky stories and is best suited for audiences 13+ \nDoors open at 5PM with storytelling starting at 7PM. Food and drink available for purchase through the Sunset Bar & Lounge throughout this event. \nThis event is presented with the Story People of Clallam County who work to to foster the ancient art of storytelling by providing opportunities to tell and listen to stories\, offer workshops\, produce public events\, and maintain a network for storytellers. \nABOUT INGRID NIXON\nThough these days she hails from Alaska\, Ingrid Nixon is a world-traveling storyteller who grew up in Port Angeles. She loves nothing better than to whisk listeners away on journeys of the imagination. Ghost stories\, exploration nail-biters\, tall tales\, traditional and personal stories—she tells them all on international expeditions\, and at venues around the country\, including the National Storytelling Festival. \nHer creative approaches to story crafting help make ancient tales relevant to modern audiences. All three of Ingrid’s recordings have received the Storytelling World Gold Seal for listeners of all ages: Her audio recording collection of ghost stories\, Lost Hearts and Other Creepy Stories\, is perfect for a dark and stormy night. Grimm’s with a Twist\, offers deliciously dark stories spiced liberally with humor and pathos. Operation Bouncy Chair\, features personal stories about the important things in life: family\, love\, and coffee. She is a champion liar many times over\, a claim that made her mother both proud and worried. She hosts a public radio program in Alaska called\, Story Borealis\, which is dedicated to the art of oral storytelling. She’s also a Seattle Moth Story SLAM winner. \nIngrid had a long\, fruitful career as a National Park Service ranger at Denali\, Glacier Bay and Mount Rainier national parks. She has received national kudos for the numerous films she has written\, hosted\, and/or narrated for Discovery Channel and the National Park Service. She has also worked as an award-winning print journalist. \nIngrid holds a Masters in Storytelling from East Tennessee State University. The concentrated emotional force lurking in their ease of manner sneaks up on you.” – The New York Times \nThe Things Around Us is a dazzling new work from acclaimed multi-disciplinary artist\, Ahamefule J. Oluo\, that layers live music and narrative exploration to create an introspective evening about the things that connect us all. It is the third in a trilogy of shows from Oluo\, following NOW I’M FINE and SUSAN. \nIn the show\, Oluo uses looping technology\, trumpet\, clarinet\, vocals\, cardboard shipping boxes for percussion\, and other instruments to create an expansive symphony performed live by one person. Weaving narrative layers throughout\, Oluo shares deeply personal reflections and darkly humorous accounts of strangers\, acquaintances\, and friends that conjoin with the music to create a singular\, transcendent experience. The Things Around Us is an evening that will draw you in and remind you of the beauty in life. \nIn The Things Around Us\, Oluo continues their practice of layering live music and narrative\, but departs from their previously epic ensemble work and highly personal stories to create\, instead\, an intimate solo show about other people. \nCombining experimental jazz\, new music\, Nigerian hi-life\, and electronic looping with bizarre and darkly humorous accounts of strangers and acquaintances\, Oluo draws out larger social and political meanings from those encounters\, weaving together a tapestry of characters and existential inquiries with dynamic multi-instrumental compositions\, using trumpet\, clarinet\, vocals\, looping/effects pedals\, and cardboard shipping boxes for percussion. \nThe Things Around Us began as a 15-minute video piece produced during the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020\, supported by a Mellon Creative Research Fellowship with University of Washington’s Meany Center. It has been further developed through early-stage showings at Black-centered cultural spaces LANGSTON and Wa Na Wari in Seattle\, residencies at MacDowell\, Yaddo\, and Seattle Rep. \nThe Things Around Us was supported by a commissioning grant from The Map Fund. \nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone. DONATIONS APPRECIATED\nOur rock-themed fall film series continues with the ultimate metal movie: This is Spinal Tap! We encourage you to dress up in your best 80s or hair-metal band inspired look and rock out with us for an evening that’s turned all the way up to eleven. \nThe mockumentary comedy by Rob Reiner\, Christopher Guest\, Michael McKean\, and Harry Shearer\, This Is Spinal Tap chronicles England’s loudest and most punctual band on their disaster-filled U.S. tour. \nThis Is Spinal Tap was released to critical acclaim in 1984 and went on to become a cult classic. In 2002\, it was deemed “culturally\, historically\, and aesthetically significant” by the Library of Congress\, and was selected for preservation by the National Film Registry. \nThis Is Spinal Tap has been credited with launching the mockumentary genre. The film shines a light on the self-contained universe of a metal band struggling to get back on the charts\, including everything from its complicated history of ups and downs\, gold albums\, name changes and undersold concert dates\, along with the full host of requisite groupies\, promoters\, hangers-on and historians\, sessions\, release events and those special behind-the-scenes moments that keep it all real. Their music’s origins reach back to the early 19th century\, when Portuguese immigrants brought the ‘ukulele and Mexican cowboys brought guitars to Hawai‘i along with their ranching knowledge. Since then\, Hawaiians have made these instruments their own\, and these dynamic musicians reflect the best of traditions\, musical virtuosity\, and sparkling compositions. \nGEORGE KAHUMOKU JR\nFour-time Grammy-winner\, master slack key guitarist George Kahumoku Jr. is known as “Hawai‘i’s Renaissance Man”\, is a multiple Grammy & Hoku Award-winning master Slack Key Guitarist\, vocalist\, songwriter\, performer\, teacher\, artist\, and sculptor\, storyteller and writer\, farmer\, and entrepreneur. This workshop is one of the great musical experiences in the Islands today\, and the result of George’s belief in sharing\, celebrating\, and perpetuating Hawaiian culture and music. \nTIA CARRERE\nInternational star and two-time Grammy winner Tia Carrere’s credits include Wayne’s World\, True Lies\, Rising Sun\, and Lilo & Stitch. Tia has also starred in her own TV series Relic Hunter\, and has appeared in Hawaii 5-0\, Curb Your Enthusiasm\, and AJ & the Queen. She most recently starred in the Universal/Amblin feature film Easter Sunday. \nDANIEL HO\nDaniel is an ‘ukulele virtuoso\, slack key guitarist\, multii-nstrumentalist\, composer\, arranger\, singer-songwriter\, producer\, audio engineer\, and record company owner. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \nCelebrate the start of fall with one final summer-style dance party and happy hour in the Sunset Lounge! This general admission event will offer a dance floor with plenty of room to boogie\, and Happy Hour specials from 5PM – 6:30PM before the music starts. \nTAE & The Neighborly\, a Wisconsin based Soul-pop R&B group\, found themselves playing music together in a very unconventional way. \nThey were all neighbors\, each one living alone on one floor of a five-story flat. Cake baking is a shared passion of the five member group\, but in the sugar shortages early in the 2020 pandemic\, they found themselves so continually knocking on each other’s doors asking for a single cup of sugar that a group decision was made to all move in together and share cake-baking resources. And since everyone knows all good rhythms begin in the kitchen\, it wasn’t before long that the group began to write and perform together  across the nation. \nCritics hail the group as “having more kick than a bagged-up mule” (Rotary Times)  and their live show “…going down smoother than a can of [beans] warmed on the campfire” (Cowboy Gazette). All in all\, if you are looking for a dense show that will give you more inspiration fuel for self lovin’\, world changin’\, and consideration havin’ meet them where the music is made to be shared. \nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone.
