SUMMARY:Laura Cooksey Gallery Open: VOYAGES MONOCHROMATIQUES
DESCRIPTION:VOYAGES MONOCHROMATIQUES “MONOCHROMATIC JOURNEYS”\nOn Display April 15 – June 15 in the Laura Cooksey Gallery at Field Hall\nFree admission\, donations appreciated \n\n\nWithout color\, light and composition are put sharply into focus to create a fresh perspective. Local photographers Thompson Holmes\, Richard Kohler\, Ernst-Ulrich Schäfer and Philippe Tauran are have been working in the medium of monochrome photography for many years collectively. Through much effort and practice\, they have found that the essence of visual subject matter can genuinely be shown in monochromatic style. \nThe light and the composition are very important in capturing the moment: everything is expressed in terms of light\, from bright white to dark black\, and in many wonderful shades of gray in between. This is a celebration of black and white photography – a unique artistic experience which challenges the viewer to see beyond color. \nGallery hours are 10AM – 2PM Monday through Saturday. SUMMARY:Reckless Son
DESCRIPTION:Field Hall Presents: Reckless Son\nSaturday\, May 3 @ 7PM | Donna M. Morris Theater\nTickets $28-$40  CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS \nA 60-minute solo show described as a 21st Century version of ‘On The Road’ meets ‘Folsom Prison Blues’   \nWritten & Performed by Matt Butler\nDirected by Richard Hoehler \nReckless Son\, written and performed by singer songwriter Matt Butler\, was inspired by his journey performing over 100 concerts in jails and prisons across the country.  Through a powerful combination of spoken word and song\, Reckless Son humanizes the experience of the incarcerated by giving them voice and telling their stories. Turning a compassionate eye to their lives before\, during and after their time behind prison walls\, the performance evokes empathy and understanding for those who are all too often considered out of sight and out of mind.  It’s a story of hope\, forgiveness\, and what it means to discover a deeper sense of purpose through service to others. Raising awareness\, shifting perspectives\, and empowering individuals to create change within their communities\, Reckless Son is more than just a show\, it’s a calling. \nReckless Son was developed in part by the HB Studio Artist Residency program and was workshopped in Oregon State Penitentiary\, The Theater Workshop at Otisville State Prison\, and the Chesterfield County Jail. \n \nMatt Butler is a songwriter\, poet and storyteller as well as the founder of Art That Serves\, an organization dedicated to bringing the arts to the incarcerated.  His solo show Reckless Son tells the story of how his concert at the Albany County Jail led to over 100 performances in jails and prisons across the country.  He’s been featured on NPR Morning Edition\, The Blue Grass Situation\, and PBS with SPIN saying “Butler is doing something special for the American arts” after adding him to their albums and artists of the year lists.  He’s performed at events held by The David Lynch Foundation\, The Columbia Center For Justice\, American Folk Art Museum\, National Alliance On Mental Illness (NAMI)\, The Caron Foundation and was an inaugural ‘Activist In Residence’ at the Kripalu Center in the Berkshires and Artist In Residence at HB Studio in Manhattan.  Along with correctional facilities\, he speaks and performs at universities\, high schools\, and retreat centers.  His first poetry collection is titled The Sonnets Of Becoming. \nField Arts & Events Hall\, the Field Hall Gallery\, and the upstairs Sunset Bar & Lounge will open at 5:30PM on May 3rd. Food and drink will be available for purchase in the Sunset Bar & Lounge prior to the start of the show and to pre-order for intermission. Theater doors will open at 6:30PM for the 7PM performance. This event is appropriate for audiences of all ages.

SUMMARY:Open Mic Mondays hosted by Bread & Gravy Duo
DESCRIPTION:Field Arts & Events Hall welcomes you to share your talent on our Sunset Lounge stage! Join us for Open Mic Mondays in the Sunset Lounge\, hosted by Bread & Gravy Duo. \nThe Sunset Bar & Lounge opens to the public at 5PM and will serve small bites and drinks throughout the event. Signup for open mic begins at 6PM; open mic starts at 6:15PM. This is a free\, all-ages event – no RSVP or ticket required. \nABOUT BREAD & GRAVY\nBread & Gravy Duo is a popular husband and wife act (Stephanie and Jess Doenges) who perform songs across many styles and genres. They feature powerful female vocals\, eclectic piano\, rhythm guitar\, and the occasional flute and harmonica. They have hosted or cohosted many Open Mics on the peninsula\, including ‘Open Mic at the Buzz’\, ‘The Junction Open Jam’\, ‘The Rainshadow Open Mic’\, and most recently at ‘Open Mic at the Sit-N-Bull’. They often play as a bigger band\, adding steady stalwarts such as Jerry Gilleland (drums) and Jason Taylor (bass and harmonies) and have also collaborated with dozens of other local musicians\, so one never knows who will come sit in with them on a given night. Follow @breadandgravymusic for more. \nSTEPHANIE DOENGES (SOUND)\nStephanie is one of the most established and recognized musicians on the peninsula. She has been playing music since a young age\, and has been in local bands such as Restless\, Luck of the Draw\, Rolling Waters\, and the Cornstalks. For the past twelve years\, she has been the face and voice of Bread and Gravy in all of its formations. While her voice is a main draw\, and guitar is her most common instrument\, she often surprises and astounds with riveting flute and harmonica solos. \nStephanie has run sound for Open Mics for many years now\, and she’s grown very adept at dialing people in quickly\, as well as tailoring the sound to any nuance the performer displays. \nJESS DOENGES (MC)\nJess is the quintessential late bloomer\, who didn’t touch a musical instrument until age 29. Bread & Gravy is the first and only band he’s ever been in. In juxtaposition to the versatile Stephanie\, he’s a one trick pony on the piano. But his love for piano\, and his love for Stephanie shows through in his playing\, and he has truly played himself into one of the top accompanists around. As an MC\, he has tons of experience herding cats (err.. musicians) to make the Open Mic experience enjoyable and fair for all involved. His quick wit and inviting vibe tend to make the audience comfortable and relaxed\, which is what is needed to have a supportive environment for all performers.

Free admission\, donations are appreciated and support future exhibits. Learn more at www.fieldhallevents.org/gallery
