Dance on the dance floor\, choose from themed specialty cocktails and mocktails\, and grab a bite from our Sunset Lounge menu! \nStop Making Sense brings to the screen Talking Heads at Hollywood’s Pantages Theater in December 1983: David Byrne\, Tina Weymouth\, Chris Frantz\, and Jerry Harrison\, alongside backing singers Lynn Mabry and Ednah Holt\, guitarist Alex Weir\, keyboardist Bernie Worrell and percussionist Steve Scales. Regarded as the best concert film of all time\, renowned filmmaker Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lambs) captures the band at their exhilarating best\, in this new and complete restoration for the film’s 40th anniversary. \n \nStop Making Sense was shot while Talking Heads were on tour promoting their 1983 album\, Speaking in Tongues. Stop Making Sense includes performances of the early Talking Heads single\, “Psycho Killer” (1977)\, through to their most recent hit at the time\, “Burning Down the House” (1983). It also includes songs from the solo career of frontman David Byrne and by Tom Tom Club\, the side project of drummer Chris Frantz and bassist Tina Weymouth. \nIn 2021\, Stop Making Sense was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally\, historically\, or aesthetically significant.”  A special 4K restoration of the film was re-released in theaters in September 2023 by A24; this event will show the restored version. \nField Arts & Events Hall does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. He tells the story of his emergence from the nightmare of life under Amin and Milton Obote (“… when the birds stopped singing”) to being a healer through the power of music. \nSamite often includes a story or two in his concerts\, but now he has turned his entire presentation inside out and the result is raw and bracing. Both performances of this show include an extended post-performance Q&A for authentic audience connection. \n \n  \n“Rhythmic beats\, floating melodies and impactful lyrics are the main components needed to create African music. These are also the elements Ugandan musician Samite Mulondo uses to spread hope\, healing and peace around the world.” – Grand Valley Lanthorn \n“Resilience is about blending beautiful traditional African music with stories of hope and tolerance. Sharing difficult topics\, Samite opened the doors for the us to gain new knowledge and empathy with grace and sensitivity. Music definitely heals – A must see!” – Karen Wacks\, (LMHC\, M.Ed.\, MT-BC) Professor of Music Therapy\, Berklee College of Music \n  \nABOUT THE ARTIST\nThe world-renowned musician Samite was born and raised in Uganda\, where his grandfather taught him to play the traditional flute. \nWhen he was twelve\, a music teacher placed a western flute in his hands setting him on his way to becoming one of East Africa’s most acclaimed flutists. He performed frequently to enthusiastic audiences throughout Uganda until 1982\, when he was forced to flee to Kenya as a political refugee. Samite immigrated to the United States in 1987\, and now he and his wife Sandra make their home on their small horse farm in upstate New York. \nWhen he is not touring\, Samite finds inspiration from their horses\, Shadow and Thyme\, photography and woodworking. Today his smooth vocals accompanied by the kalimba\, marimba\, litungu\, and various flutes mesmerize audiences throughout the world. \nSamite has released eleven CDs internationally and in 2009\, the film Taking Root: The Vision of Wangari Maathai\, which features his original score\, debuted nationally on PBS. Samite released My Music World\, in 2010 and\, as he states\, the album captures more of who he is than any of his previous albums. “It represents influences from all the places I have been\, from my childhood in Uganda\, and my life in Kenya as a refugee\, to my current travels in Africa with my work for Musicians for World Harmony. I am always inspired by my surroundings– my childhood hikes into the forest\, my teenage years in Kampala\, and my visits to refugee camps and orphanages.” In 2012\, Samite composed the soundtrack for the film Addiction Incorporated and his ninth CD\, Trust {Inspired by the soundtrack for the film “Addiction Incorporated”} was  released in that year.  Samite has recently released his tenth CD\, “Another Side of Me” (available on this website) and he is currently working on another CD to be released later this year. \nSamite is the subject of the documentary\, Song of the Refugee\, distributed by PBS in 1998. It was while filming this that Samite’s work as a humanitarian began.  In 2002\, he founded Musicians for World Harmony\, an organization dedicated to enabling musicians throughout the world to share their music to promote peace\, understanding\, and harmony among people. In that capacity he travels to sing\, play music\, and exchange stories with victims of war\, poverty and HIV/AIDS.  He has traveled extensively the war-torn and distressed countries of Uganda\, Kenya\, Congo\, Rwanda\, Tanzania\, Latvia\, Liberia and Cote d’Ivoire to work in refugee camps\, with former child soldiers and AIDS orphans. \nIn his role as Founding Director of Musicians for World Harmony\, Samite is fortunate to bring his message of peace to a wide audience. He performed his arrangement of the traditional Baganda song\, Ani Oyo for The Dalai Lama in 2007 during Bridging Worlds with His Holiness The Dalia Lama in Ithaca\, NY. In 2009 he performed at “Connecting For Change\,” part of the 2009 Vancouver Peace Summit: Nobel Laureates in Dialogue\, hosted by the Dalai Lama Center for Peace and Education. \nIn the fall of 2011\, Samite performed and spoke at the UNHCR 60th Anniversary Celebration in New York City. More recently Samite collaborated with the filmmakers of “Alive Inside\,” an award-winning documentary on the power of music to awaken the memories locked away in patients with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.  This film and Samite’s subsequent place on Dr. Bill Thomas’ 2014 “Second Wind Tour\,” have cemented the natural progression of the work that Samite does with Musicians for World Harmony.  This direction\, of an increased focus on working with seniors and dementia patients\, evolved into a collaboration between MWH and Dr. Bill Thomas for his “Age of Disruption Tour” in 2016 and 2017. Samite and Musicians for World Harmony continue to bring the healing power of music into communities in upstate New York and around the country- working with young and old alike. \nIn the Spring of 2018\, Samite finished recording his eleventh CD\, Resilience -and it was released on September 14\, 2018.  He also completed two years of work with directors at Saint Joseph University on the theatrical performance of the same name which had its World Premiere on March 23\, 2018 in Hartford\, CT.  Samite is now touring Lessons of Humanity and Resilience\, his one-man theater performances and his compelling show\, The Story of Mutoto\, in which he connects the stories of his childhood in Uganda to his trips to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in western Uganda and the plight of the endangered Silverback Mountain Gorillas.

This slapstick science-fiction adventure propels Sinking Ship and Theater in Quarantine into their most technically ambitious production to date\, improbably trapping performer Joshua William Gelb amidst an exponentially expanding cast of one. \nThis is a live multi-media performance including both a live actor onstage and video overlay. \nABOUT THE ARTISTS \nSinking Ship Productions (www.sinkingshipproductions.com) a New York-based theater company\, is the creative collaboration between Jonathan Levin and Josh Luxenberg. We work with a core group of Associate Artists\, combining physical theater\, puppetry\, music and movement in delightful\, strange and unexpected ways. Sinking Ship creates work that is the theatrical version of circumnavigating the globe in a questionably seaworthy vessel: grand and ridiculous\, unadvisedly ambitious\, and possibly delusional as we sail full tilt to the horizon. \nTheater in Quarantine (youtube.com/theaterinquarantine) is an Obie and Drama League Award-winning performance laboratory dedicated to the exploration of the live theatrical experience in the digital space. Established in response to the pandemic\, TiQ has developed and live-streamed dozens of visually distinctive\, original works to its YouTube channel\, working out of a closet in the East Village that’s only 8 sq feet. \nTheater in Quarantine merges the live and the digital — embracing 21st century solutions to the question of “what is “theatrical”? Our digital and hybrid programming spans genres and styles\, with world premieres of new plays\, new musicals\, adaptations of classic texts\, dance\, and site-specific art installations. \nThe accessibility of the digital form has allowed us to reach audiences around the globe\, with our viewership growing from just a handful to thousands. Theater in Quarantine has been featured on NPR’s All Things Considered\, Japan’s NHK Television\, and has been profiled in The New Yorker and The New York Times. Within a single year Theater in Quarantine has been a five-time New York Times Critic’s Pick as well as one of Vulture’s “Top 10 Best Theater Moments of 2020” and among the New York Times’ “Best Theater of 2021.”\n​\nDuring the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic Theater in Quarantine was run by Co-Creative Directors Joshua William Gelb and Katie Rose McLaughlin\, collaborating remotely with over a hundred collaborators and reaching audiences across the globe. Presenting partners include The Invisible Dog\, Theater Mitu\, LaMama\, CultureHub\, New Georges\, CulturalDC\, A2SF\, the Exponential Festival\, and NYUSkirball. Some of their most notable shows include support slots for The Comet is Coming\, Makaya McCraven\, Anomalie\, The Brooks\, and Five Alarm Funk. \nThe core group includes Ed Durocher (Guitar)\, Tim Iskierski (Drums)\, Aarin Lofstrand (Bass)\, Jordie Oulette (Trumpet)\, Benjamin James Hill (Trombone)\, Alex Maher (Alto Sax and pedals) and Anatol Rennie (Keyboards/Synths). \n \n  \nABOUT THE ARTISTS\nFounded by Ed Durocher\, Apollo Suns is a 7-piece instrumental collective from Winnipeg\, Manitoba. They have self-released three EPs: ‘Each Day a Different Sun’ (2017)\, ‘Dawn Offerings’ (2019)\, ‘A Relationship of Force’ (Color Red\, 2021)\, and were awarded “Instrumental Artist of the Year” at Western Canadian Music Awards in both 2018/2020. \nIn 2022\, Apollo Suns returned to the studio with Juno award-winning producer Ben Kaplan (Five Alarm Funk\, Mother Mother\, The Rare Americans) to record their latest album\, ‘Departures’. The band is signed to the Canadian label Do Right Music\, home to The Souljazz Orchestra\, Soul Motivators\, and Luvmenauts. ‘Departures’ was released in September 2023 and supported by a robust North American tour that included sold-out shows in several cities. The band returned to Winnipeg\, MB to a two night stand at The Good Will Social Club to celebrate the release in their hometown.

She joins us in the Sunset Lounge for a special Halloween event featuring some of her most-requested darker stories\, speckled with her signature sense of humor and accented with live music. \nWeitkamp’s darker stories are some of her most requested pieces all year long\, not just around Halloween. Even more surprising is the fact that the audiences find themselves laughing in the oddest of places. Kim’s comedic abilities are on display as she carefully tucks moments of laughter into her darker pieces. A simple and effective way to give the audience a moment to breathe. Women spin off their skin\, children rise from frigid waters\, and head bones rattle in their graves. This event is not recommended for children under the age of 13.  \nThis event is presented with the Story People of Clallam County who work to to foster the ancient art of storytelling by providing opportunities to tell and listen to stories\, offer workshops\, produce public events\, and maintain a network for storytellers. \n  \n \nABOUT THE ARTIST\nNever one to be boxed in\, Kim Weitkamp’s wandering and curious mind is on display for all to see through her award-winning stories\, songs and writing. Sam Payne\, host of SiriusXM Appleseed Radio stated that\, “Now\, more than ever\, we are seeing Kim Weitkamp the writer.” Her tales and songs are well crafted and the boundaries of your mind and even your heart will always be expanded. She does all of this with impeccable comedic timing. \nKim grew up in Amish Country as the middle child of exhausted parents. Labeled by teachers as high-spirited and too talkative\, Kim took those comments and channeled them into a lifetime of high-energy\, heartfelt and hilarious artistry and we are better for it. \nKim performs at festivals and theaters around the country\, has written an award-winning folk operetta and has been a guest editor and contributor for various publications. DESCRIPTION:North Olympic Watercolorists & Field Hall Gallery Present: “Watercolor: Studio to Gallery”\nThursday – Saturdays 10AM – 2PM | Field Hall Pat Donlin Lobby\, Gallery\nAdmission is free\, donations appreciated. \nThe North Olympic Watercolorists (NOW) and Field Hall Gallery have partnered to present an immersive journey through the world of watercolor art. “Watercolor: From Studio to Gallery\,” opened on Tuesday\, August 13th showcasing a vibrant display of unique styles\, techniques\, and subjects and inviting visitors to take a glimpse behind the brushstrokes through studio vignettes. The exhibit will run through October 26th.\n\nThe exhibit features pieces by NOW members Kristi Kaiser\, Mary Hughes\, Shirley Rudolf\, Marilyn Hiestand\, Janet Flatley\, Melissa Doyel\, Katie Carlson\, Annette Clem\, Karen Lavender Peterson\, Dee Margeson\, Lyn Conlan\, Beverly Beighle\, Suzanne Rescigna\, Georgianna Seko\, Kristin Warner\, Barb Diekfuss\, Shing Ledgerwood\, Connie Drysdale\, Shannon Goose\, and Betsy Robins. The exhibit will also showcase works from the late Pat Donlin\, a dedicated artist and arts patron whose early investment in Field Hall helped create the very space where the exhibit will take place.\n\nThe Field Hall Gallery is open 10 AM – 2 PM Thursdays through Saturdays and for two hours prior to most performances. Don’t miss this lively lunchtime concert\, perfect for grabbing a bite and enjoying great music.\n\n\nMichael Rivers Singer\, Songwriter \nMost recognized as the director of the Peninsula Men’s Gospel Singers (PMGS)\, a group he has directed for over 20 years\, Michael has also coached vocal students and toured performing original Folk Gospel. \nHe has recorded 3 CDs of his music and songs from those recordings have been played on Seattle folk stations and i heart radio. \nFor the last few years Michael has been collaborating with Craig Buhler\, a local legend in the Jazz scene. \nCraig Buhler\, Singer\, Composer\, Musician \nA member of the Olympic Peninsula arts community for over two decades\, Craig Buhler is active as a composer\, recording artist\, jazz saxophonist\, vocalist\, producer\, educator\, and advocate. \nHe is a member of the California rock group “Honk\,” which recorded and toured alongside “The Beach Boys\,” “Loggins & Messina\,” and other top artists.  “Honk” continues to sell out several Orange County venues. \nCraig’s nine CDs and three books circulate worldwide\, and his improvisation workshop is attended by many fine local musicians. \nSince 2017\, Craig has sung and played clarinet with Peninsula Men’s Gospel Singers.  He worked with the Stardust Big Band for 15 years\, including eight years as director \nMichael plays keys and sings. Craig plays sax and clarinet and narrates decades worth of pop music history and trivia. Audiences of all ages have been delighted by the playful energy these two musicians create! \nCome see these two dynamic musicians perform\, free of charge\, Thursday October 3 at the Field Arts & Events Hall in Port Angeles.

Grab a soup\, sandwich\, or salad from the cafe and unwind with free tunes during your lunch hour.\n\nThe Field Arts & Events Hall is thrilled to welcome back Casey Fall. Casey is a talented musician known for her captivating voice and guitar skills.\n\nOriginally hailing from Wisconsin\, Casey discovered Port Angeles while on assignment here serving as a helicopter pilot for the Coast Guard. She will be separating from military service this summer\, but the good news is that she loves it here so much she plans to make the Pacific Northwest her permanent home.\n\nAs a singer/songwriter\, Casey creates new and refreshing sounds by combining folk\, country\, Americana and pop music and can often be found entertaining audiences at our local establishments. Says Casey\, “the breathtaking surroundings and vibrant local music community serve as a constant inspiration for me”.\n\nSo come see and hear Casey on Thursday\, September 19th between 11 am and 1 pm at the Field Hall. She will set up downstairs across from the Cafe. Stop in\, grab lunch or just coffee from the Cafe then kick back and listen as Casey performs.\n\nThere is no charge to see Casey as this is part of Field Hall’s ongoing mission to introduce the public to our talented local  music community.
