SUMMARY:Trio Brasileiro: Dudu Maia\, Douglas Lora & Alexandre Lora
DESCRIPTION:A Field Hall Performs Event: Trio Brasileiro – Dudu Maia\, Douglas Lora & Alexandre Lora \nMonday\, April 27th @ 6:30PM | The Sunset Lounge\n*General Admission Tickets $20 | CLICK HERE TO BUY TICKETS\n*Our ticketing platform Ludus charges a 5% service fee for all card transactions. To avoid this fee\, visit our Box Office at 201 W. Front Street and pay via cash or check. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \nCelebrated worldwide for their artistry and deep musical connection\, Trio Brasileiro brings a radiant and intimate approach to Brazilian choro. Their album Rosa dos Ventos (Windrose) earned a 2018 Grammy nomination for Best World Music Album and was named one of DownBeat Magazine’s Top 20 Jazz Recordings of the Year\, a testament to the trio’s expressive power and technical brilliance. \nThe group’s chemistry is rooted in lifelong bonds: brothers Douglas Lora (seven‑string guitar) and Alexandre Lora (percussion) grew up making music together\, and later found their artistic counterpart in Dudu Maia\, a master of the bandolim. Their annual creative retreats in Caraíva not only led to the founding of the ensemble Caraivana but also forged the profound musical partnership that is the heart of Trio Brasileiro. \nEach musician brings extensive study of their instrument and the rich traditions of choro—a genre shaped by African rhythms and European classical influences\, and\, as cultural historian Bruno Carvalho notes\, remains “one of Brazil’s most popular music styles” even after 150 years. Whether performing classic choro or their own original works\, the trio’s performances shimmer with nuance\, rhythmic interplay\, and an unmistakable sense of joy. \nPacific Northwest audiences may remember their standout appearance at Wintergrass 2020 and their beloved\, often sold‑out faculty concerts at Centrum in Port Townsend. \nTheir music radiates the magic of long‑time collaboration:\n“The percussion and strings come together to develop a deep groove… lightning‑fast collective improvisation… and an exciting rhythmic basis for the music that is thrilling to hear.”\n— Tim Niland\, Music and More

Join us for Open Mic Mondays in the Sunset Lounge\, hosted by Bread & Gravy Duo. Signup for open mic begins at 6PM; open mic starts at 6:15PM. This is a free\, all-ages event – no RSVP or ticket required. \n*VIP tables are for our very inspired patrons who choose to donate $40 to reserve seating at a premium table for up to four guests. Donations like these\, cash donations at Field Hall\, and purchases of food and drinks through the bar support this ongoing free series at Field Hall. We thank you for all levels of support – including thunderous applause for our local artists! \n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT BREAD & GRAVY\nBread & Gravy Duo is a popular husband and wife act (Stephanie and Jess Doenges) who perform songs across many styles and genres. They feature powerful female vocals\, eclectic piano\, rhythm guitar\, and the occasional flute and harmonica. They have hosted or cohosted many Open Mics on the peninsula\, including ‘Open Mic at the Buzz’\, ‘The Junction Open Jam’\, ‘The Rainshadow Open Mic’\, and most recently at ‘Open Mic at the Sit-N-Bull’. They often play as a bigger band\, adding steady stalwarts such as Jerry Gilleland (drums) and Jason Taylor (bass and harmonies) and have also collaborated with dozens of other local musicians\, so one never knows who will come sit in with them on a given night. Follow @breadandgravymusic for more. \nSTEPHANIE DOENGES (SOUND)\nStephanie is one of the most established and recognized musicians on the peninsula. She has been playing music since a young age\, and has been in local bands such as Restless\, Luck of the Draw\, Rolling Waters\, and the Cornstalks. For the past twelve years\, she has been the face and voice of Bread and Gravy in all of its formations. While her voice is a main draw\, and guitar is her most common instrument\, she often surprises and astounds with riveting flute and harmonica solos.\nStephanie has run sound for Open Mics for many years now\, and she’s grown very adept at dialing people in quickly\, as well as tailoring the sound to any nuance the performer displays. \nJESS DOENGES (MC)\nJess is the quintessential late bloomer\, who didn’t touch a musical instrument until age 29. Bread & Gravy is the first and only band he’s ever been in. In juxtaposition to the versatile Stephanie\, he’s a one trick pony on the piano. But his love for piano\, and his love for Stephanie shows through in his playing\, and he has truly played himself into one of the top accompanists around. As an MC\, he has tons of experience herding cats (err.. musicians) to make the Open Mic experience enjoyable and fair for all involved. His quick wit and inviting vibe tend to make the audience comfortable and relaxed\, which is what is needed to have a supportive environment for all performers.

SUMMARY:The Flying Karamozov Brothers: Artifishal Idiots
DESCRIPTION:Field Hall Presents: Artifishal Idiots: A New Theatre Experience by The Flying Karamazov Brothers\nFriday\, February 20th @ 6:30PM | Donna M. Morris Theater\n*Tickets $25-$45 Adult\, $22 Youth | Financial assistance available – click here to apply\n*Our ticketing platform Ludus charges a 5% service fee for all credit card transactions. To avoid this fee\, visit our Box Office at 201 W. Front Street and pay via cash or check. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \n“Any competent juggler can defy gravity. Only the Karamazovs can make light of it.” – The Seattle Times \nArtifishal Idiots is a hilarious\, provocative\, awe-inspiring exploration of humanity in the age of AI. \nLegendary for more than five decades of boundary-pushing physical comedy\, virtuosic juggling\, and sharp social commentary\, The Flying Karamazov Brothers return with an entirely new theatrical work. Artifishal Idiots is a bold\, funny\, and unsettling exploration of artificial intelligence—and what it means to be human. \nSet in a not-too-distant future where flesh-and-blood humans may no longer exist\, Artifishal Idiots fuses high-level juggling\, music\, and live performance with AI-generated visuals and hallucinatory projections across three massive screens. The result is a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience that delivers nonstop laughter alongside jaw-dropping physical feats. \n\n\n\n\n\nAt the heart of the work is a deceptively simple idea: what can machines never replace? The answer unfolds through juggling\, an art form defined by risk\, imperfection\, and inevitable failure. Gravity always wins\, and in that failure\, the show finds something profoundly human. \nCreated and performed by Paul Magid (Dmitri Karamazov) alongside collaborators Chen Pollina and Tomoki Sage of the ensemble NANDA\, the production reflects the Karamazovs’ tradition of building everything in-house\, from choreography and performance to visuals\, design\, and conceptual world-building. AI-driven imagery inspired by psychedelic 1960s light shows collides with blisteringly fast\, intricate juggling to create moments of beauty\, chaos\, and surprise. \nEqual parts comedy\, spectacle\, and cautionary tale\, Artifishal Idiots is theatre that can only be experienced live. \n“When the Karamazovs magically make juggling look like a dance routine or sound like a jazz jam session\, their act really flies.” – The New York Times \n“They juggle till they drop\, then keep on juggling!” – Time Out New York \nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone. It consists of sensational Chinese acrobatics\, comedy\, balancing feats and much more. A truly authentic Oriental spectacular and a show for all ages\, the grace and precision of the acrobats are the triumph of years of dedicated training and discipline. Only the best acrobats find themselves members of an elite world-touring troupe such as THE PEKING ACROBATS. Their tradition has thrived through the centuries\, dating back to the Ch’in Dynasty (221 B.C. – 207 B.C.) and Chinese acrobats have continued to perfect an ever evolving folk art form. Each new movement or action takes many years to practice and perfect\, and tradition demands that each generation of acrobats add their own improvements and embellishments to their acts. It is telling that the Chinese Acrobatic tradition just gets stronger\, due to the  continued innovation of the artists and the endless enthusiasm from their adoring public. \nEach artist in THE PEKING ACROBATS displays a range of demanding performances\, most of them typifying the Chinese Circus\, offering a refreshing alternative to the usual Western traditions of performance. From the dangerous climbing chair stack high above the audience\, about which the New York Times said\, “these acrobats provide feats of circus art that reach breathtaking heights of skill\,” to the gravity defying contortionists and tumblers\, to the spectacular Bicycle Pagoda where multiple performers ride atop a single performer on the bicycle – all this and more completes a marvelous and exciting entertainment event for theatre going “youngsters” from nine to ninety-two…as Variety once raved\, “A is for Acrobat…and astounding…and AMAZING!” \nThey have performed many trail-blazing Symphony Concerts\, combining their unique art form with the traditional Symphony Orchestra in their inspiring performances that have been hailed by the press as “theatrical alchemy at its finest!” Some of these world-famous Symphony Orchestras include the San Francisco Symphony\, the Atlanta Symphony\, the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra\, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra\, the Buffalo Philharmonic\, the San Diego Symphony\, and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. THE PEKING ACROBATS have built a tremendous reputation while performing not only on the cultural stage\, but also on many popular television shows\, including NICKELODEON’S UNFABULOUS\, and ELLEN’S REALLY BIG SHOW\, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres\, among several others.
