SUMMARY:The Rumba Kings
DESCRIPTION:Field Hall Presents: The Rumba Kings\nSaturday\, August 15th @ 7:30PM | Donna M. Morris Theater\n*Tickets $55 – $75 | GET TICKETS HERE\n*Our ticketing platform Ludus charges a 5% service fee for all card transactions. To avoid this fee\, visit our Box Office at 201 W. Front Street and pay via cash or check. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \nLet The Rumba Kings transport you the shores of the Mediterranean – where music and passion collide! \nThe Rumba Kings defy expectations with their captivating live performances. Although their name suggests a focus on rumba\, the band’s repertoire extends far beyond that genre. Their music draws from a wide range of influences\, resulting in a diverse and enchanting experience. \nAt the heart of their show is the Spanish guitar\, which takes center stage alongside a string quartet and various other instruments\, while guest vocalists make up a portion of the performance\, the majority of the show is instrumental. \nThe Rumba Kings prioritize showmanship\, infusing their soulful and passionate music with a visually engaging performance. Guitarist George Stevens adds a visual dimension by dancing while playing and connecting with the crowd\, enhancing the overall experience for the audience. \n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT THE RUMBA KINGS\nFormed in June 2015 by Johnny Bacolas and George Stevens\, The Rumba Kings (see Wikipedia Article here) is a Seattle-based band that defies genre boundaries. Influenced by diverse musical styles ranging from Spanish-guitar influenced style of The Gipsy Kings to the Mediterranean-inspired instrumental melodies of Yanni\, their music takes listeners on a journey through the Mediterranean. While their name may suggest a focus on rumba\, the name is a bit misleading.  The Rumba Kings’ repertoire encompasses a myriad of music influences\, creating a rich and dynamic sound that transcends several genres\, combined with the most powerful live show on the world stage. \nThe band’s journey began when Bacolas and Stevens met in May 2015 and discovered a shared musical vision for their dream music and live show. \nBy January 2016\, The Rumba Kings had built a live set-list of original music and began auditioning musicians to form their first live band. They honed their performance through intimate gigs at small clubs in Seattle\, steadily gaining a devoted following.  As word spread about their passionate and energetic shows\, the band graduated to larger venues\, which later included the renowned Triple Door\, various PAC’s\, and various prestigious theaters around The Northwest. \nThe Rumba Kings continue to captivate audiences with their diverse and romantic blend of Pop\, Latin\, and Mediterranean music\, creating a truly unforgettable experience for listeners and concertgoers. \nOur ticketing platform Ludus charges a 5% service fee for all card transactions. To avoid this fee\, visit our Box Office at 201 W. Front Street and pay via cash or check. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. Is cost a barrier? SUMMARY:An Evening with The Travelin' McCourys
DESCRIPTION:Field Hall Presents: An Evening with The Travelin’ McCourys\nMonday\, August 3rd @ 7:30PM | Donna M. Morris Theater\n*Tickets $29.50 – $54.50 | CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS\n*Our ticketing platform Ludus charges a 5% service fee for all credit card transactions. To avoid this fee\, visit our Box Office at 201 W. Front Street and pay via cash or check. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \nFrom a source deep\, abundant\, and pure the river flows. It’s there on the map\, marking place and time. Yet\, the river changes as it remains a constant\, carving away at the edges\, making new pathways\, gaining strength as it progresses forward. The Travelin’ McCourys are that river. \nThe McCoury brothers—Ronnie (mandolin) and Rob (banjo)—were born into the bluegrass tradition. Talk about a source abundant and pure: their father\, Del\, is among the most influential and successful musicians in the history of the genre. Years on the road with Dad in the Del McCoury Band honed their knife-edge chops and encouraged the duo to imagine how traditional bluegrass could cut innovative pathways into 21st century music. \n“If you put your mind\, your skills\, and your ability to it\, I think you can make just about anything work on bluegrass instruments\,” says Ronnie. “That’s a really fun part of this—figuring the new stuff out and surprising the audience.” \nThe newest member of the band\, fiddler Christian Ward\, joined after Jason Carter moved on to pursue a solo career. Bassist Alan Bartram\, and Cody Kilby on guitar\, they assembled a group that could take what they had in their DNA\, the traditions they learned and heard\, and push the music forward. In fact\, the band became the only group to have each of its members recognized with an International Bluegrass Music Association Award for their instrument at least once. There were peers\, too\, that could see bluegrass as both historic and progressive. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees The Allman Brothers Band\, improv-rock kings Phish\, and jamband contemporary Keller Williams were just a few that formed a mutual admiration society with the ensemble. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe band played the Allman’s Wanee Festival and guitarist Warren Haynes’ Christmas Jam—an annual holiday homecoming of Southern music. An early-years jam with the Lee Boys was hailed by many as the highlight of the evening\, and with the video catching fire online\, earned a legion of new\, young fans of their supercharged combination of sacred steel\, R&B\, and bluegrass. There were unforgettable collaborations with country smash Dierks Bentley\, onstage magic jamming with titans String Cheese Incident and Phish\, cutting an album with Keller (Pick)\, and creating the Grateful Ball—a tribute concert-turned-tour bridging bluegrass with the iconic music of the Grateful Dead. \n“That’s something that’s part of us being who we are\,” says Ronnie. “It comes\, too\, with us plugging in. It gets louder\, for sure. We can’t be another version of our dad’s band. It wouldn’t make any sense for us to do that.” \nTheir concerts became can’t-miss events\, whether headlining historic venues or as festival favorites\, drawing the love and respect of a growing fanbase craving their eclectic repertoire. At the 2016 edition of DelFest\, an annual gathering of the genre’s best aptly named for the McCoury patriarch\, the band delivered the take-away highlight. Rolling Stone called it “a sublime combination of rock and bluegrass\, contemporary and classic\, old and young. The best set of the festival…” The river was going new places\, getting stronger. It was time to re-draw the map. \n“We’ve tried to pick songs we think people are going to enjoy\,” says Ronnie. “Something we learned from our dad is that a good song is a good song. It can be done in any way.” \nSo arrives the long-awaited\, self-titled debut album from the quintet. A brilliantly executed set overflowing with inventive style\, stellar musicianship\, and\, of course\, plenty of burnin’ grass\, the 14-song collection is a true culmination of their decades-long journey. From the headwaters of Bill Monroe and the waves of Jerry Garcia to a sound both rooted and revolutionary\, soulful and transcending that belongs only to the Travelin’ McCourys. \n“The album definitely shows what we’ve evolved into as a band. And it’s a pretty good representation of what’s happening with the whole genre\,” says Rob. “The old bluegrass material is something I love but it’s been done many times. We’re forging ahead with our own sound. That’s what you have to do to make it all work.” \nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone. We thank you for all levels of support – including thunderous applause for our local artists! \n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT BREAD & GRAVY\nBread & Gravy Duo is a popular husband and wife act (Stephanie and Jess Doenges) who perform songs across many styles and genres. They feature powerful female vocals\, eclectic piano\, rhythm guitar\, and the occasional flute and harmonica. They have hosted or cohosted many Open Mics on the peninsula\, including ‘Open Mic at the Buzz’\, ‘The Junction Open Jam’\, ‘The Rainshadow Open Mic’\, and most recently at ‘Open Mic at the Sit-N-Bull’. They often play as a bigger band\, adding steady stalwarts such as Jerry Gilleland (drums) and Jason Taylor (bass and harmonies) and have also collaborated with dozens of other local musicians\, so one never knows who will come sit in with them on a given night. Follow @breadandgravymusic for more. \nSTEPHANIE DOENGES (SOUND)\nStephanie is one of the most established and recognized musicians on the peninsula. She has been playing music since a young age\, and has been in local bands such as Restless\, Luck of the Draw\, Rolling Waters\, and the Cornstalks. For the past twelve years\, she has been the face and voice of Bread and Gravy in all of its formations. While her voice is a main draw\, and guitar is her most common instrument\, she often surprises and astounds with riveting flute and harmonica solos.\nStephanie has run sound for Open Mics for many years now\, and she’s grown very adept at dialing people in quickly\, as well as tailoring the sound to any nuance the performer displays. \nJESS DOENGES (MC)\nJess is the quintessential late bloomer\, who didn’t touch a musical instrument until age 29. Bread & Gravy is the first and only band he’s ever been in. In juxtaposition to the versatile Stephanie\, he’s a one trick pony on the piano. But his love for piano\, and his love for Stephanie shows through in his playing\, and he has truly played himself into one of the top accompanists around. As an MC\, he has tons of experience herding cats (err.. musicians) to make the Open Mic experience enjoyable and fair for all involved. His quick wit and inviting vibe tend to make the audience comfortable and relaxed\, which is what is needed to have a supportive environment for all performers.

SUMMARY:Trio Brasileiro: Dudu Maia\, Douglas Lora & Alexandre Lora
DESCRIPTION:A Field Hall Performs Event: Trio Brasileiro – Dudu Maia\, Douglas Lora & Alexandre Lora \nMonday\, April 27th @ 6:30PM | The Sunset Lounge\n*General Admission Tickets $20 | CLICK HERE TO BUY TICKETS\n*Our ticketing platform Ludus charges a 5% service fee for all card transactions. To avoid this fee\, visit our Box Office at 201 W. Front Street and pay via cash or check. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \nCelebrated worldwide for their artistry and deep musical connection\, Trio Brasileiro brings a radiant and intimate approach to Brazilian choro. Their album Rosa dos Ventos (Windrose) earned a 2018 Grammy nomination for Best World Music Album and was named one of DownBeat Magazine’s Top 20 Jazz Recordings of the Year\, a testament to the trio’s expressive power and technical brilliance. \nThe group’s chemistry is rooted in lifelong bonds: brothers Douglas Lora (seven‑string guitar) and Alexandre Lora (percussion) grew up making music together\, and later found their artistic counterpart in Dudu Maia\, a master of the bandolim. Their annual creative retreats in Caraíva not only led to the founding of the ensemble Caraivana but also forged the profound musical partnership that is the heart of Trio Brasileiro. \nEach musician brings extensive study of their instrument and the rich traditions of choro—a genre shaped by African rhythms and European classical influences\, and\, as cultural historian Bruno Carvalho notes\, remains “one of Brazil’s most popular music styles” even after 150 years. Whether performing classic choro or their own original works\, the trio’s performances shimmer with nuance\, rhythmic interplay\, and an unmistakable sense of joy. \nPacific Northwest audiences may remember their standout appearance at Wintergrass 2020 and their beloved\, often sold‑out faculty concerts at Centrum in Port Townsend. \nTheir music radiates the magic of long‑time collaboration:\n“The percussion and strings come together to develop a deep groove… lightning‑fast collective improvisation… and an exciting rhythmic basis for the music that is thrilling to hear.”\n— Tim Niland\, Music and More
