SUMMARY:An Evening with The Travelin' McCourys
DESCRIPTION:Field Hall Presents: An Evening with The Travelin’ McCourys\nMonday\, August 3rd @ 7:30PM | Donna M. Morris Theater\n*Tickets $29.50 – $54.50 | CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS\n*Our ticketing platform Ludus charges a 5% service fee for all credit card transactions. To avoid this fee\, visit our Box Office at 201 W. Front Street and pay via cash or check. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \nFrom a source deep\, abundant\, and pure the river flows. It’s there on the map\, marking place and time. Yet\, the river changes as it remains a constant\, carving away at the edges\, making new pathways\, gaining strength as it progresses forward. The Travelin’ McCourys are that river. \nThe McCoury brothers—Ronnie (mandolin) and Rob (banjo)—were born into the bluegrass tradition. Talk about a source abundant and pure: their father\, Del\, is among the most influential and successful musicians in the history of the genre. Years on the road with Dad in the Del McCoury Band honed their knife-edge chops and encouraged the duo to imagine how traditional bluegrass could cut innovative pathways into 21st century music. \n“If you put your mind\, your skills\, and your ability to it\, I think you can make just about anything work on bluegrass instruments\,” says Ronnie. “That’s a really fun part of this—figuring the new stuff out and surprising the audience.” \nThe newest member of the band\, fiddler Christian Ward\, joined after Jason Carter moved on to pursue a solo career. Bassist Alan Bartram\, and Cody Kilby on guitar\, they assembled a group that could take what they had in their DNA\, the traditions they learned and heard\, and push the music forward. In fact\, the band became the only group to have each of its members recognized with an International Bluegrass Music Association Award for their instrument at least once. There were peers\, too\, that could see bluegrass as both historic and progressive. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees The Allman Brothers Band\, improv-rock kings Phish\, and jamband contemporary Keller Williams were just a few that formed a mutual admiration society with the ensemble. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe band played the Allman’s Wanee Festival and guitarist Warren Haynes’ Christmas Jam—an annual holiday homecoming of Southern music. An early-years jam with the Lee Boys was hailed by many as the highlight of the evening\, and with the video catching fire online\, earned a legion of new\, young fans of their supercharged combination of sacred steel\, R&B\, and bluegrass. There were unforgettable collaborations with country smash Dierks Bentley\, onstage magic jamming with titans String Cheese Incident and Phish\, cutting an album with Keller (Pick)\, and creating the Grateful Ball—a tribute concert-turned-tour bridging bluegrass with the iconic music of the Grateful Dead. \n“That’s something that’s part of us being who we are\,” says Ronnie. “It comes\, too\, with us plugging in. It gets louder\, for sure. We can’t be another version of our dad’s band. It wouldn’t make any sense for us to do that.” \nTheir concerts became can’t-miss events\, whether headlining historic venues or as festival favorites\, drawing the love and respect of a growing fanbase craving their eclectic repertoire. At the 2016 edition of DelFest\, an annual gathering of the genre’s best aptly named for the McCoury patriarch\, the band delivered the take-away highlight. Rolling Stone called it “a sublime combination of rock and bluegrass\, contemporary and classic\, old and young. The best set of the festival…” The river was going new places\, getting stronger. It was time to re-draw the map. \n“We’ve tried to pick songs we think people are going to enjoy\,” says Ronnie. “Something we learned from our dad is that a good song is a good song. It can be done in any way.” \nSo arrives the long-awaited\, self-titled debut album from the quintet. A brilliantly executed set overflowing with inventive style\, stellar musicianship\, and\, of course\, plenty of burnin’ grass\, the 14-song collection is a true culmination of their decades-long journey. From the headwaters of Bill Monroe and the waves of Jerry Garcia to a sound both rooted and revolutionary\, soulful and transcending that belongs only to the Travelin’ McCourys. \n“The album definitely shows what we’ve evolved into as a band. And it’s a pretty good representation of what’s happening with the whole genre\,” says Rob. “The old bluegrass material is something I love but it’s been done many times. We’re forging ahead with our own sound. That’s what you have to do to make it all work.” \nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone. Although their name suggests a focus on rumba\, the band’s repertoire extends far beyond that genre. Their music draws from a wide range of influences\, resulting in a diverse and enchanting experience. \nAt the heart of their show is the Spanish guitar\, which takes center stage alongside a string quartet and various other instruments\, while guest vocalists make up a portion of the performance\, the majority of the show is instrumental. \nThe Rumba Kings prioritize showmanship\, infusing their soulful and passionate music with a visually engaging performance. Guitarist George Stevens adds a visual dimension by dancing while playing and connecting with the crowd\, enhancing the overall experience for the audience. \n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT THE RUMBA KINGS\nFormed in June 2015 by Johnny Bacolas and George Stevens\, The Rumba Kings (see Wikipedia Article here) is a Seattle-based band that defies genre boundaries. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \nAward-winning artist Duane Forrest blends the timeless music of Nat King Cole with powerful storytelling in a captivating\, heartfelt exploration of legacy\, identity\, and quiet resistance. \nFrom Off-Broadway stages to international festivals\, Forrest invites audiences into an intimate\, soul-stirring journey through the life and influence of one of the 20th century’s most iconic voices. Blending velvety renditions of Cole’s classics with deeply personal reflection\, he explores how a Black man in 1950s America became a cultural pioneer — the first to host a nationally broadcast television show — while navigating a world that celebrated him onstage but resisted him off it. \nRaised in Toronto\, Forrest reflects on his own relationship with jazz — a genre born from Black roots\, yet often presented as distant or elite — and how discovering Cole’s music opened the door to spaces he once felt were not meant for him. \nThrough song\, story\, and striking theatrical imagery\, Tenderly is a moving meditation on influence\, dignity\, and the quiet power of simply showing up. \nUplifting\, personal\, and unforgettable: this is a must-see performance!  \n  \nABOUT DUANE FORREST\nDuane Forrest is a professional singer-songwriter and multimedia artist from Toronto\, Ontario.\nHis unique sound blends jazz\, reggae\, bossa nova\, soul\, and smooth vocals. He has secured radio play in Canada\, Germany\, Honduras\, Iceland\, Italy\, Nicaragua\, and the United States. His latest album\, The Climb\, reaches more than 4\,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. \nIn 2017\, Duane debuted his first theatre production\, Climb\, a live album experience based on his concept album\, The Climb. Duane also presented Climb at the 2018 Toronto Fringe Festival\, where Toronto Fringe founder Gregory Nixon described the show as “one of the highlights of this year’s Fringe.” Most recently in 2019 & 2022 Climb received glowing reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In 2023 Duane performed CLIMB at the Milan Fringe Festival and was runner up for “show of the festival”. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \nBREAKING BOUNDARIES both musical and geographical\, cellist\, composer and multilingual vocalist IAN MAKSIN has created his own unique style by blending elements of different genres and traditional music from around the globe in a new way using his cello as the main unifying force. \nONE-MAN ORCHESTRA: In addition to cello\, he used an electronic device called the loop pedal\, which allows him to create “loops” or layers by recording and replaying his own playing in real time. \nSINGING IN 30 LANGUAGES: What began as a hobby and a passion for linguistics and travel has become part of a unique concert experience. At this time Ian Maksin sings in Ukrainian\, Polish\, Russian\, English\, Farsi\, Armenian\, French\, Italian\, Arabic\, Hebrew\, Mongolian\, Bambara (one of the tongues spoken in West Africa) and many other exotic languages. Most of this repertoire was amassed by Maksin during his world travels\, jam sessions and collaborations with local musicians. Many of his original songs and instrumental compositions are also infused with flavors of ethnic music from countries and regions where he drew inspiration from: Mongolia\, West Africa\, Middle East\, the Balkans\, Andalusian flamenco. \nTHE GLOBAL MUSICIAN: Ian Maksin was born in Leningrad\, former USSR\, into a multinational family and grew up absorbing many cultures and traditions from an early age. He began playing guitar and piano at age 3 and cello at age 6 at the School for Gifted Children in Leningrad and then came to the USA at 16 to continue studies at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City and Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. After working for many years in the classical genre including a three-year tenure with the New World Symphony in Miami Ian has decided to look for his own musical path. His diverse musical experience\, including playing rock and blues guitar and passion for jazz and world music has allowed him to take the cello to a new dimension and develop his own distinct style as a musician and composer. \nIn Ian’s own words: “At some point I realized that music is much more than mere entertainment. Music is one of most powerful and unifying forces in the world\, capable of healing\, inspiring\, bringing people together and bringing peace among them. I believe that cello will save the world”  \n\n\n\n\n\nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone. Financial assistance is available for this event through our #fieldhallforall program. Luca’s creative style\, which led him to invent instruments like the Reversed Triple Neck Guitar and the Reversed Slide Neck\, vastly contributed to the modern evolution of acoustic guitar. \nKnown worldwide for his explosive fingerstyle technique\, alternate tunings\, and multi-neck guitars\, Stricagnoli transforms the acoustic guitar into a full orchestra—blending melody\, rhythm\, percussion\, and harmony into a single\, unforgettable performance. His original compositions and reimagined covers push the boundaries of what’s possible on six strings\, delivering both technical brilliance and pure entertainment. \nHe has been hailed as a phenomenon and a prodigy by influential magazines and newspapers all over the world\, including NME\, Guitar World\, Der Spiegel\, La Repubblica\, Daily Sabah\, Frankfurter Allgemeine and more. \nLocal fans will recognize him from performances at Juan de Fuca Festival for the Arts. \n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT LUCA STRICAGNOLI\nLuca started his career at the age of 10\, studying classical guitar and later attending the Conservatory\, the most prestigious music school in Italy. He excelled in classical competitions\, placing 1st at the contest “Cittá di Lissone”\, and when he finally discovered Fingerstyle Guitar\, he began spending endless hours on YouTube\, learning techniques just by watching videos. Using his acoustic guitar\, he won even more competitions\, such as the Acoustic Guitar Contest “VII Festival Internazionale Della Chitarra di Fiuggi” with a score of 100/100\, the “Festival dei Talenti” and an opportunity to open for Legendary Italian band New Trolls. Meanwhile\, Luca met the Italian luthier Davide Serracini\, with whom he collaborated ever since. \nIn the coming years\, Luca started creating his own unique style\, which included utilizing violin bows\, multiple guitars at once\, modified capos and unusual tunings. His breakthrough came when his arrangement ‘The Last Of The Mohicans’ was picked up by Candyrat Records\, the most influential Fingerstyle label\, and quickly reached streaming numbers in the millions. After this success\, Luca was asked to release his debut album. The lead single\, a brilliant rendition of ‘Thunderstruck\,’ went viral with over 14 million views in just a few weeks\, which led to him being invited to perform all around the world. \nLuca started an intense touring activity and a few years later published his second album ‘What If?’\, which incorporated many of the unorthodox ideas that he had been working on\, like the Reversed Triple Neck Guitar. This instrument\, which featured the first reversed neck in guitar’s history\, went viral once again\, causing Luca’s career to skyrocket\, with performances at events for Nobel Prize Winners and Top CEOs\, as well as having his music featured in countless television shows. \nLuca started his own YouTube channel and quickly amassed hundred-thousands of followers\, winning the Creator Award while at the same time collaborating with his wife\, the award-winning singer/songwriter Meg Pfeiffer. Together\, they won the European Songwriting Award and 10 prizes at the German Rock & Pop Awards\, and embarked on highly successful tours. \nOn his 3rd album\, ‘Change of Rules’\, Luca debuted even more inventions such as the “Guitar Ring” but also the “Reversed Slide Neck”\, a unique attachable guitar neck which received incredible online success and even the praise of New Atlas\, one of the world’s largest international science and technology publications. \nLuca has played around 100 shows a year\, from small concerts in remote towns to massive shows at the Nokia Arena in Tel Aviv; from private events for clients like Formula 1\, Hard Rock Hotel\, Infosys\, and BNSF Railways\, to sold-out concerts in prestigious philharmonics\, theatres and performing arts centers. He has held workshops for universities and played on national TV and at international festivals\, as well as being a judge at international guitar competitions. \nIn his career he had the chance of sharing the stage with Grammy winners and nominees including Jim “Kimo” West\, Linda Briceño\, Debashish Bhattacharya and many other immensely talented artists like William Joseph\, Caroline Campbell\, Sona Jobarteh\, Lulo Reinhardt\, Antoine Dufour\, Cenk Erdogan\, Antoine Boyer\, Samuelito\, Calum Graham\, Crystian Dozza\, Thu Le and Alexandra Wittingham to mention a few. Luca has recently founded his own music label and is also a recurring host of International Guitar Night. \nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone. SUMMARY:Judy Collins: Sweet Judy Blue Eyes\, Farewell Tour
DESCRIPTION:Field Hall Presents: Judy Collins – Sweet Judy Blue Eyes\, Farewell Tour\nSponsored by Oak Street Bistro\nTuesday\, September 29 @ 7PM | Donna M. Morris Theater\n*Tickets $49.50 – $89.50 | CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS\n*Our ticketing platform Ludus charges a 5% service fee for all card transactions. To avoid this fee\, visit our Box Office at 201 W. Front Street and pay via cash or check. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \nJudy Collins has long inspired audiences with sublime vocals\, boldly vulnerable songwriting\, personal life triumphs\, and a firm commitment to social activism. In the 1960s\, she evoked both the idealism and steely determination of a generation united against social and environmental injustices. Six decades later\, her luminescent presence shines brightly as new generations bask in the glow of her iconic 55-album body of work\, and heed inspiration from her spiritual discipline to thrive in the music industry for half a century. \nIn 2026\, Collins bids adieu to the road with her “SWEET JUDY BLUE EYES” Farewell Tour\, launching July 4\, 2026 and running through 2027—an expansive final run across North America and beyond that gives audiences one last chance to experience her timeless voice and storytelling live. The tour follows a remarkable recent chapter: six new albums released since 2015\, the artistic renaissance of Spellbound (her first album of all self-penned songs\, nominated for Best Folk Album at the 2023 GRAMMY Awards)\, and her 2025 poetry collection Sometimes It’s Heaven: Poems of Love\, Loss and Redemption—a vivid extension of the honesty and grace that have defined her enduring legacy. \n  \nABOUT JUDY COLLINS\nJudy Collins is an award-winning singer-songwriter esteemed for her imaginative interpretations of traditional and contemporary folk standards and her own poetically poignant original compositions. Her stunning rendition of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now” from her landmark 1967 album\, Wildflowers\, has been entered into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Judy’s dreamy and sweetly intimate version of “Send in the Clowns\,” a ballad written by Stephen Sondheim for the Broadway musical A Little Night Music\, won “Song of the Year” at the 1975 Grammy Awards. She’s garnered several top-ten hits gold- and platinum-selling albums. Recently\, contemporary and classic artists such as Rufus Wainwright\, Shawn Colvin\, Dolly Parton\, Joan Baez\, and Leonard Cohen honored her legacy with the album Born to the Breed: A Tribute to Judy Collins.  \n  \nOPENING ACT: OAKLAND RAIN\nEven things that seem identical are different. Oakland Rain’s Maren Wallevik and Charlotte Wallevik are what some would call mirror twins\, an elusive condition loosely defined by opposing characteristics. For example\, one is left-handed\, the other is right-handed; one thinks in colors (sound-to-color synesthesia)\, and the other is more language centric. Within Maren and Charlotte are many contrasts that shape their sense of selves\, both as individuals and as twin sisters. \nFor the Norwegian indie folk-pop/ country-americana duo’s double full-length debut\, Twin Flames\, the sisters explore these paradoxes and other puzzles of identity. The conceptual and thoughtfully curated project is organized by color and genre. Twin Flame Part I: The Evergreen (the “green” side) is showcasing Oakland Rain’s affinity for earthy Americana\, and was released in the spring of 2025\, receiving stunning reviews. With the album\, the sisters got nominated for Best New Artist at the honorable Fjordingprisen by Norwegian Americana Forum\, played at Folk Alliance International\, and got invited to an extensive North American tour by legend Judy Collins. With the album and its aftermath\, Oakland Rain released the album documentary “The Road To The Ryman”\, which has gained attention amongst international film festivals. Twin Flame Part II: Heavenly Blue (the “blue” side)\, is slated for autumn 2026/spring 2027\, gracefully delves into Nordic fleeting alternative pop. \n“The title Twin Flames felt like us—we are literally twin flames—the music on the album is influenced by the dualities that shape us\,” Maren says. Charlotte continues: “These two albums are our expression of the human condition. The green side is the realism of life\, and the blue side is escapism and imagination. We need both—you can show courage and still hold fear. They can and do coexist.” \nThis premium performance is made possible with support from Oak Street Bistro

The music he performs with the Afro-Cuban All Stars blends classic son montuno\, contemporary timba\, swinging big-band guajira\, jazzy Afro-Cuban danzón\, and the rich\, rhythmic traditions of abakuá and bolero. \nABOUT JUAN DE MARCOS GONZÀLES \nBorn in the Pueblo Nuevo barrio of Havana to a musical family\, Juan de Marcos González is a Cuban producer\, composer\, bandleader and actor better known for his albums with Sierra Maestra\, Afro-Cuban All Stars\, the Buena Vista Social Club series and the films VIVO\, Mambo Man\, Buena Vista Social Club and Buena Vista Social Club: Adios. His father\, Marcos González Mauriz (d March 1990)\, was a vocalist and rumbero who performed with prominent bandleader Arsenio Rodriguez and other well-known orchestras of the forties and fifties. \nGonzález studied popular and tres guitar at the Ignacio Cervantes Conservatory and with maestros Leopoldina Nunez and Vicente “Guyun” Gonzalez. Later took courses on orchestral conduction and contemporary harmony at Goldsmith College\, London. \nGrowing up\, González was a fan of American and British rock music before rediscovering his Cuban roots and establishing the first young “traditional” Cuban band\, Sierra Maestra\, in 1976. González’s stated goal was to keep the torch of Cuban folk music alive for a younger generation. \nGonzález became a key member of the Buena Vista Social Club under contract with Nick Gold\, of World Circuit Records. Using his knowledge on and contacts in the Cuban music world González  created the required line-up\, where many of the musicians were old friends of his dad. \nWhen Ry Cooder arrived in Havana for recording\, González himself was working an “all stars” album tribute to the golden era greats of Cuban music\, the Afro-Cuban All Stars\, featuring many of the same musicians who comprise the Buena Vista Social Club. Subsequently\, González led this band\, The Afro-Cuban All Stars and  Ruben Gonzalez’s ensemble on their first European and American tours\, including the concerts at Le Carre (Amsterdam)\, Mexico’s Auditorio Nacional and Carnegie Hall. \nGonzález’s work has been nominated 4 times for the GRAMMY awards and won the first Womex Awards. \nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone. Tradition meets a contemporary vision\, and the memory of those who danced before flows through every movement. Dance appears as a place of passage: the past breathes in the present\, what is inherited transforms\, the body holds experience\, and each gesture finds its place in the now. \nTonight celebrates the journey\, the legacy\, and the love for those who danced before. This evening exists because others came before it\, but this one is different. It is mine and it is now.” – Marta Gálvez \nFeatured artists for La Velada include David Durán (flamenco guitarist)\, Rosa Linero (flamenco singer)\, Luis Dorado (flamenco percussionist). The artistic team includes Marta Gálvez (director\, choreographer and flamenco dancer) and Begoña Fernandez (artistic direction and dramaturgy). \n\n\n\n\n\nSPAIN FLAMENCO ARTS organizes performances\, workshops\, and cultural activities\, showcasing a wide range of artists from various styles. Through these initiatives\, it has toured embassies\, Cervantes Institutes\, cooperation offices\, international universities\, theaters\, festivals\, and other private venues around the world. \nABOUT MARTA GÁLVEZ\nBorn in Córdoba\, Marta Gálvez began her journey in flamenco at the age of three. Her passion for dance led her to train at the Conservatorio Profesional de Danza\, where she earned her degree in Spanish Dance in 2012. She also received a scholarship at the Centro Andaluz de Danza\, where she deepened her knowledge and honed her technique under the guidance of renowned professionals.  Throughout her training\, she explored various styles and techniques that enriched her artistic expression\, blending the intensity of flamenco with the elegance of Spanish dance. Her constant pursuit of learning and refinement has shaped her into a performer with a distinctive style and commanding stage presence. \nMarta Gálvez has built her career by participating in competitions and earning distinctions such as the “Outstanding Dancer” award in 2015 and the Young Flamenco Artists Award from the Córdoba Provincial Council in 2023. If Tom Waits\, Django Reinhardt\, and Mississippi John Hurt had met in a New Orleans carnival\, stayed up all night under a bridge writing songs\, and decided to form a band\, the results might sound something like Hot Damn Scandal. \nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone.
