Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \n“Shaping the future of Cuban music” - The Sunday Times \nCuban musician and bandleader Juan de Marcos González first gained international acclaim for his work with the Grammy-winning Buena Vista Social Club and continues to carry that legacy forward\, most recently as a key collaborator on the acclaimed Broadway musical Buena Vista Social Club. The music he performs with the Afro-Cuban All Stars blends classic son montuno\, contemporary timba\, swinging big-band guajira\, jazzy Afro-Cuban danzón\, and the rich\, rhythmic traditions of abakuá and bolero. \nABOUT JUAN DE MARCOS GONZÀLES \nBorn in the Pueblo Nuevo barrio of Havana to a musical family\, Juan de Marcos González is a Cuban producer\, composer\, bandleader and actor better known for his albums with Sierra Maestra\, Afro-Cuban All Stars\, the Buena Vista Social Club series and the films VIVO\, Mambo Man\, Buena Vista Social Club and Buena Vista Social Club: Adios. His father\, Marcos González Mauriz (d March 1990)\, was a vocalist and rumbero who performed with prominent bandleader Arsenio Rodriguez and other well-known orchestras of the forties and fifties. \nGonzález studied popular and tres guitar at the Ignacio Cervantes Conservatory and with maestros Leopoldina Nunez and Vicente “Guyun” Gonzalez. Later took courses on orchestral conduction and contemporary harmony at Goldsmith College\, London. \nGrowing up\, González was a fan of American and British rock music before rediscovering his Cuban roots and establishing the first young “traditional” Cuban band\, Sierra Maestra\, in 1976. González’s stated goal was to keep the torch of Cuban folk music alive for a younger generation. \nGonzález became a key member of the Buena Vista Social Club under contract with Nick Gold\, of World Circuit Records. Using his knowledge on and contacts in the Cuban music world González  created the required line-up\, where many of the musicians were old friends of his dad. \nWhen Ry Cooder arrived in Havana for recording\, González himself was working an “all stars” album tribute to the golden era greats of Cuban music\, the Afro-Cuban All Stars\, featuring many of the same musicians who comprise the Buena Vista Social Club. Subsequently\, González led this band\, The Afro-Cuban All Stars and  Ruben Gonzalez’s ensemble on their first European and American tours\, including the concerts at Le Carre (Amsterdam)\, Mexico’s Auditorio Nacional and Carnegie Hall. \nGonzález’s work has been nominated 4 times for the GRAMMY awards and won the first Womex Awards. \nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone. Financial assistance is available for this event through our #fieldhallforall program. Patrons can request a discount of up to 100%. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \nLA VELADA: An Alchemy of Past and Present\nCreated and Choreographed by Marta Gálvez\n“La Velada (This evening) is a moment that breathes between what once was and who I am now. Tradition meets a contemporary vision\, and the memory of those who danced before flows through every movement. Dance appears as a place of passage: the past breathes in the present\, what is inherited transforms\, the body holds experience\, and each gesture finds its place in the now. \nTonight celebrates the journey\, the legacy\, and the love for those who danced before. This evening exists because others came before it\, but this one is different. It is mine and it is now.” – Marta Gálvez \nFeatured artists for La Velada include David Durán (flamenco guitarist)\, Rosa Linero (flamenco singer)\, Luis Dorado (flamenco percussionist). The artistic team includes Marta Gálvez (director\, choreographer and flamenco dancer) and Begoña Fernandez (artistic direction and dramaturgy). \n\n\n\n\n\nSPAIN FLAMENCO ARTS organizes performances\, workshops\, and cultural activities\, showcasing a wide range of artists from various styles. Through these initiatives\, it has toured embassies\, Cervantes Institutes\, cooperation offices\, international universities\, theaters\, festivals\, and other private venues around the world. \nABOUT MARTA GÁLVEZ\nBorn in Córdoba\, Marta Gálvez began her journey in flamenco at the age of three. Her passion for dance led her to train at the Conservatorio Profesional de Danza\, where she earned her degree in Spanish Dance in 2012. She also received a scholarship at the Centro Andaluz de Danza\, where she deepened her knowledge and honed her technique under the guidance of renowned professionals.  Throughout her training\, she explored various styles and techniques that enriched her artistic expression\, blending the intensity of flamenco with the elegance of Spanish dance. Her constant pursuit of learning and refinement has shaped her into a performer with a distinctive style and commanding stage presence. \nMarta Gálvez has built her career by participating in competitions and earning distinctions such as the “Outstanding Dancer” award in 2015 and the Young Flamenco Artists Award from the Córdoba Provincial Council in 2023. Her talent and versatility have led her to join companies led by David Coria\, María Pagés\, Ursula López\, José Porcel\, and Juan Carlos Avecilla\, performing at international festivals and theaters. Expect haunting tunes that will raise the dead and get them on the dance floor! \nHot Damn Scandal is dressing up this Halloween as Heebie and the Jeebies. It’ll be a frightfully good time. \nArtist Lineup: \nPete – Rhythm Guitar and Vocals\nAni – Musical Saw and Vocals\nMickey – Bass and Vocals\nJimmy – Trombone\nJane – Saxophone\nAugie – Electric Guitar\nDavid – Drums \n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT HOT DAMN SCANDAL\nBellingham-based band Hot Damn Scandal finds its songs under park benches and in forgotten alleyways. The resulting outlaw ballads\, dirty jazz\, circus freakouts\, ragtime sea-shanties\, string band funk\, lonesome heart-breakers\, and whiskey bottle love songs blend together in a sweet song syrup somewhere between a ramble and a roar. If Tom Waits\, Django Reinhardt\, and Mississippi John Hurt had met in a New Orleans carnival\, stayed up all night under a bridge writing songs\, and decided to form a band\, the results might sound something like Hot Damn Scandal. \nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone. They’ll be guided to create a list of roles they have played throughout their life\, beginning in childhood\, and continuing on through their high school years\, work life\,  social life\,  family life\,  etc.   \nThree of these roles will be randomly and magically selected and paired with three unavoidable life experiences culled from a list of twenty.  Things like: Turning Point.  Choice.  Conflict.  Loss.  Challenge.  Decision… \nThree pairs will be whittled down\, and the most interesting pair will be picked by their partner. \nA story will be developed using the four elements of The Hero’s Journey:  Quest.  Obstacle.  Resolution.  New wisdom. \n*We will be literally dropping pens\, and I don’t toss the word literally around\, so the pen you bring to the workshop shouldn’t be your grandfather’s old fountain pen. In the two decades since his first major single\, “Superman (It’s Not Easy)\,” hit the stratosphere\, the artist has both evolved and come back ‘round full circle. \nTo date\, Five For Fighting\, has released six studio LPs\, including the platinum certified America Town and The Battle for Everything; and the top-10 charting Two Lights\, along with an EP and live albums. Ondrasik has penned major hits\, including the chart-topping “100 Years\,” “The Riddle\,” “Chances\,” “World\,” and “Easy Tonight\,” which have earned over one billion streams and place him as a top-10 Hot Adult Contemporary artist for the 2000s. The reflective “100 Years” has joined “Superman (It’s Not Easy)” as part of the American Songbook and continues to stand the test of time at weddings\, birthdays\, graduations\, memorials\, and many a home video. Five For Fighting’s music has also been featured in more than 350 films\, television shows\, and commercials\, including the Oscar-winning The Blind Side\, Hawaii Five-O\, The Sopranos and the CBS drama\, Code Black. \nReferencing Fight For Fighting’s success in the 2000s\, AllMusic called Ondrasik “one of the decade’s leading balladeers.” But perhaps his biggest achievement is performing “Superman (It’s Not Easy)\,” at the 2001 Concert for New York\, a benefit show at Madison Square Garden that honored first responders and the fallen about a month after the tragic September 11th attacks. Ondrasik performed alongside other big -name artists like Paul McCartney\, The Who\, Elton John\, Billy Joel\, and dozens more. \nBuoyed by his unique falsetto voice and his prowess on the piano —a skill bestowed to him by his piano teacher mother—Ondrasik has made a solid reputation for himself in the world of songwriting and performance\, selling upwards of three million albums over his career. Not only does he tour with his popular string quartet and play solo and rock band gigs\, but he is also a high demand keynote\nspeaker in which he combines themes of creativity and innovation with his business acumen. He’s presented at TEDx\, The Salk Institute\, American Cancer Society\, and dozens more. \nSupport -Lace and Lee \nLace & Lee is a folk rock duo heavily influenced by the mystical wisdom of 60s and 70s storytelling\, with a twist of humor and bard-like prose. Caroline Lace and Olivia Lee began their musical journey at NYU Tisch\, and have since toured with Five For Fighting.
