Morris Theater for a special evening with friends! \nSAM GRISMAN ON HIS PROJECT:\nThe music that my father David Grisman and his close friend\, Jerry Garcia\, made in the early 90s (in the house that I grew up in) is not only some of the most timeless acoustic music ever recorded\, it also triggers my oldest and fondest musical memories. What I find most inspiring about this material is the way their camaraderie and their love and joy for the music\, simply oozes out of each recording. It is also impressive how deeply they get beneath their favorite songs—whether they are originals\, covers or traditional/old time tunes—and how expertly that material was curated. \nMy goal in starting Sam Grisman Project is to build a platform for my friends and me to showcase our genuine passion and appreciation for the legacy of Dawg and Jerry’s music. By playing some of their beloved repertoire and sharing the original music that our own collective has to offer\, we will also show the impact that this music has had on our own individual  musical voices. Ultimately\, there is nothing that makes me happier than playing great songs with my best friends and my hope is to share that happiness with audiences all over! \nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone. Morris Theater\nTickets $22 – $28  CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS \nJFFA and Field Hall are proud to present this partner event as part of our IN HARMONY series.  Allen Fitzpatrick wows in this one-hour solo adaptation. \nFor the 5th year in a row\, renowned stage actor Allen Fitzpatrick presents his solo adaptation of Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” \n“I was completely absorbed for the entire hour\, and at the end\, very deeply moved.” \nAllen follows in the footsteps of its author who\, a few years after writing the novella\, began public readings of it which he continued to perform until the year of his death. \nThis story has been represented in over a hundred adaptations for stage\, film\, opera\, and radio. In Allen’s version\, audiences have the opportunity to use the full range of their imagination as one actor— on a virtually bare stage— creates 26 different characters. Audiences have been delighted by the personal\, individual impact which this approach affords. \nDickens’ novella captures the zeitgeist of the mid-Victorian revival of the Christmas holiday\, popularizing many aspects of Christmas celebration— including family gatherings\, seasonal food and drink\, dancing\, games\, and a festive generosity of spirit. And it shows the path by which selfish\, acquisitive men may redeem themselves.  Its most important theme\, however— all too relevant today— is to shine a glaring light on mistreatment of the poor. Dickens wrote his novella in response to British social attitudes towards poverty. He was compelled to show the repercussions of ignoring the poor— especially children— in poverty.

The production revisits Mexican folklore to tell new stories\, engage old archetypes\, challenge patriarchy\, uplift the role of curanderas and re-examine our imagination about “death” and the “after-life.” \nEmbrace the power of storytelling as a form of processing grief and sharing love with those in the beyond. Ghost stories\, exploration nail-biters\, tall tales\, traditional and personal stories—she tells them all on international expeditions\, and at venues around the country\, including the National Storytelling Festival. \nHer creative approaches to story crafting help make ancient tales relevant to modern audiences. All three of Ingrid’s recordings have received the Storytelling World Gold Seal for listeners of all ages: Her audio recording collection of ghost stories\, Lost Hearts and Other Creepy Stories\, is perfect for a dark and stormy night. Grimm’s with a Twist\, offers deliciously dark stories spiced liberally with humor and pathos. Operation Bouncy Chair\, features personal stories about the important things in life: family\, love\, and coffee. She is a champion liar many times over\, a claim that made her mother both proud and worried. She hosts a public radio program in Alaska called\, Story Borealis\, which is dedicated to the art of oral storytelling. She’s also a Seattle Moth Story SLAM winner. \nIngrid had a long\, fruitful career as a National Park Service ranger at Denali\, Glacier Bay and Mount Rainier national parks. She has received national kudos for the numerous films she has written\, hosted\, and/or narrated for Discovery Channel and the National Park Service. She has also worked as an award-winning print journalist. \nIngrid holds a Masters in Storytelling from East Tennessee State University. The concentrated emotional force lurking in their ease of manner sneaks up on you.” – The New York Times \nThe Things Around Us is a dazzling new work from acclaimed multi-disciplinary artist\, Ahamefule J. Oluo\, that layers live music and narrative exploration to create an introspective evening about the things that connect us all. It is the third in a trilogy of shows from Oluo\, following NOW I’M FINE and SUSAN. \nIn the show\, Oluo uses looping technology\, trumpet\, clarinet\, vocals\, cardboard shipping boxes for percussion\, and other instruments to create an expansive symphony performed live by one person. Weaving narrative layers throughout\, Oluo shares deeply personal reflections and darkly humorous accounts of strangers\, acquaintances\, and friends that conjoin with the music to create a singular\, transcendent experience. The Things Around Us is an evening that will draw you in and remind you of the beauty in life. \nIn The Things Around Us\, Oluo continues their practice of layering live music and narrative\, but departs from their previously epic ensemble work and highly personal stories to create\, instead\, an intimate solo show about other people. \nCombining experimental jazz\, new music\, Nigerian hi-life\, and electronic looping with bizarre and darkly humorous accounts of strangers and acquaintances\, Oluo draws out larger social and political meanings from those encounters\, weaving together a tapestry of characters and existential inquiries with dynamic multi-instrumental compositions\, using trumpet\, clarinet\, vocals\, looping/effects pedals\, and cardboard shipping boxes for percussion. \nThe Things Around Us began as a 15-minute video piece produced during the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020\, supported by a Mellon Creative Research Fellowship with University of Washington’s Meany Center. Enjoy a taste of our seasonal food and drink menu as well as stunning views from the waterfront Sunset Lounge and a hilarious night of standup comedy. \nProducer and host Drew Wilson-McGrath brings a powerhouse comedy lineup to Field Hall with headliner Monica Nevi\, an award-winning Seattle-based comedian whose debut special “Big Stepdad Energy” was immediately voted one of the top 50 specials of 2022 by We Own The Laughs magazine. Our hilarious feature for the evening is Dylan Jenkins\, a stand up comedian hailing from Portland\, Oregon\, who isone of the most clever comics operating in the PNW. \nBring a friend and share a laugh with local PNW comedians! Apps\, dinner\, desserts and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available for purchase through the Sunset Bar & Lounge. \n  \nHEADLINER | MONICA NEVI\nMonica Nevi is regularly touring nationally and internationally and can be seen performing in clubs\, colleges\, and theaters across the country. The Seattle-based comedian’s debut special “Big Stepdad Energy” (Helium Studios) released in October 2022\, and was immediately voted top 50 specials of the year by We Own The Laughs magazine.\n​\nShe has appeared on FOX’s nationally syndicated TV show ‘Laughs’ and ESPN’s Sports Center\, as well as Seattle based television programs ‘New Day Northwest’ and ‘[the 206]’ Monica released her documentary series ’80 For 80′ on Amazon Prime Video this year where she hosts and interviews hilarious short episodes with people over the age of 80. It is available now on YouTube. \nShe debuted two albums in late 2020 within one month of each other. Her first standup album\, Mostly Finger Guns followed by her debut comedic guided meditation Chill. Both went #1 on the comedy charts. \n  \nFEATURE | DYLAN JENKINS\nDylan Jenkins is a stand up comedian hailing from Portland\, Oregon\, and he is one of the most clever comics operating in the PNW. Fast paced jokes blend with real life stories and observations that will get you rolling in your seat. Dylan performs all over the country\, and is a distinguished \nregular at Helium Comedy Club. He has also been featured on Treefort Music Festival\, The 10\,000 Laughs Comedy Festival\, SF SKETCHFEST and Rip City Comedy Fest. DONATIONS APPRECIATED\nOur rock-themed fall film series continues with the ultimate metal movie: This is Spinal Tap! We encourage you to dress up in your best 80s or hair-metal band inspired look and rock out with us for an evening that’s turned all the way up to eleven. \nThe mockumentary comedy by Rob Reiner\, Christopher Guest\, Michael McKean\, and Harry Shearer\, This Is Spinal Tap chronicles England’s loudest and most punctual band on their disaster-filled U.S. tour. \nThis Is Spinal Tap was released to critical acclaim in 1984 and went on to become a cult classic. In 2002\, it was deemed “culturally\, historically\, and aesthetically significant” by the Library of Congress\, and was selected for preservation by the National Film Registry. \nThis Is Spinal Tap has been credited with launching the mockumentary genre. The film shines a light on the self-contained universe of a metal band struggling to get back on the charts\, including everything from its complicated history of ups and downs\, gold albums\, name changes and undersold concert dates\, along with the full host of requisite groupies\, promoters\, hangers-on and historians\, sessions\, release events and those special behind-the-scenes moments that keep it all real. This screening is hosted in celebration of the release of Spinal Tap II: The End Continues\, scheduled for theatrical release September 12th. \nDoors open at 5PM; food and drink available for purchase through the Sunset Bar & Lounge.

This workshop is one of the great musical experiences in the Islands today\, and the result of George’s belief in sharing\, celebrating\, and perpetuating Hawaiian culture and music. \nTIA CARRERE\nInternational star and two-time Grammy winner Tia Carrere’s credits include Wayne’s World\, True Lies\, Rising Sun\, and Lilo & Stitch.
