SUMMARY:Noche Flamenca\, La Ronde (Entre Tu y Yo)
DESCRIPTION:Field Hall Presents: Noche Flamenca\, La Ronde (Entre Tu y Yo)\nSaturday\, March 1 @ 7PM | Donna M. Morris Theater\nTickets $35-$75  CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS \nFlamenco in its purest form: an evening of duets\, solos\, and company pieces by Martín Santangelo\, Soledad Barrio\, and Noche Flamenca. \nSoledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca\, the renowned company founded by Artistic Director Martín Santangelo and dancer Soledad Barrio\, return with a new version of La Ronde (Between You and Me)\, an evening-length program of duets and ensemble works. \nApollinaire Scherr\, in a review for The Financial Times\, described La Ronde “as flamenco puro—the Spanish art stripped to its flammable core.” Brian Seibert wrote in The New York Times\, “The visual design is no more elaborate than cafe chairs and a spotlight. The wonderful musicians and the dancers’ feet are barely amplified. That’s all in accord with the company aesthetic: bare bones\, nothing to hide behind\, nothing to get in the way.”  \n“La Ronde\,” a work inspired by Max Ophüls’ 1950 film\, and the dizzying carousel of romantic and sexual relationships it presents\, that Noche Flamenca has been developing for four years. True to the company’s boundary-pushing and emotionally probing style\, in “La Ronde\,” artistic director and choreographer Martin Santangelo uses a series of duets to explore love\, hate\, jealousy\, and death. The piece draws inspiration from Ingmar Bergman’s Persona\, the pianist James Booker\, the story of Cain and Abel\, Demeter & Persephone\, and other sources\, in addition to Ophüls. \nAlso part of the program is “Refugiados” (“Refugees”)\, created from poems by children in refugee camps. To develop “Refugiados”—first created 15 years ago\, and further developed for the engagement at the Connelly—Santangelo and the company took the children’s poems\, translated them to Spanish\, and set them to song and dance. \nFinally\, La Ronde includes Soledad’s Barrio’s signature\, “Soleá\,” which exemplifies the catharsis at the heart of flamenco. In it\, she displays the singular artistry Tobi Tobias attributed to her in ArtsJournal\, where she wrote\, “What woman could hold a candle to Soledad Barrio? In modern dance\, Isadora Duncan and Martha Graham. In ballet\, maybe Nora Kaye\, in her Tudor roles. Certainly no one we can go and see today has Barrio’s transformative power.”

DESCRIPTION:Jenner Fox: A John Prine Christmas\nSaturday\, December 14 @ 7PM | Donna M. Morris Theater\nTickets $25-$50 Adult\, $15 Youth CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS \nEver wonder what John Prine has to do with Christmas? Ever wished the beloved songwriter had more to do with sleigh bells\, eggnog\, and Old Saint Nick? \nIn 1994 Prine released his 11th LP titled\, “A John Prine Christmas.” The critics didn’t acclaim it much\, but with titles such as “Silent Night All Day Long ” and “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus\,” it’s still Prine at his lovely wry best\, bringing Christmas home. \nWe are proud to present “A John Prine Christmas” – a night of your favorite songs featuring folk troubadour and Prine scholar\, Jenner Fox\, with his all-star band. The evening will weave together Prine’s classic hits\, his holiday themed songs\, stories\, and lots of singing along. Come prepared to laugh and cry and ho ho ho your way through celebrating a true American original. \n \nABOUT THE ARTISTS (www.jennerfox.com)\nMade up of members from Pacific Northwest groups Polecat\, Petty or Not and Skillethead\, the Jenner Fox Band first assembled for a 240 mile cargo bicycle tour across Northern California in 2021. It clicked. They shared a sensibility for deep listening\, three part harmonies\, John Prine\, and flat tires. Americana UK calls their most recent LP\, “Evocative and revelatory…reminiscent of children’s books much loved by adults.” This band is not one to be missed.

SUMMARY:Samite: Resilience
DESCRIPTION:Samite: Resilience\nSaturday\, November 23 @ 1PM | Donna M. Morris Theater\nSaturday\, November 23 @ 7PM | Donna M. Morris Theater\nTickets $25 – $50 Adults\, $15 Youth CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS \nBeautiful\, powerful\, personal and musical – “Resilience” is a play with the urgency of now combined with timeless stories of healing. \nInternationally recognized musician\, humanitarian\, and artists Samite tells his life’s story in this multi-media one-man play. He tells the story of his emergence from the nightmare of life under Amin and Milton Obote (“… when the birds stopped singing”) to being a healer through the power of music. \nSamite often includes a story or two in his concerts\, but now he has turned his entire presentation inside out and the result is raw and bracing. Both performances of this show include an extended post-performance Q&A for authentic audience connection. \n \n  \n“Rhythmic beats\, floating melodies and impactful lyrics are the main components needed to create African music. These are also the elements Ugandan musician Samite Mulondo uses to spread hope\, healing and peace around the world.” – Grand Valley Lanthorn \n“Resilience is about blending beautiful traditional African music with stories of hope and tolerance. Sharing difficult topics\, Samite opened the doors for the us to gain new knowledge and empathy with grace and sensitivity. Music definitely heals – A must see!” – Karen Wacks\, (LMHC\, M.Ed.\, MT-BC) Professor of Music Therapy\, Berklee College of Music \n  \nABOUT THE ARTIST\nThe world-renowned musician Samite was born and raised in Uganda\, where his grandfather taught him to play the traditional flute. \nWhen he was twelve\, a music teacher placed a western flute in his hands setting him on his way to becoming one of East Africa’s most acclaimed flutists. He performed frequently to enthusiastic audiences throughout Uganda until 1982\, when he was forced to flee to Kenya as a political refugee. Samite immigrated to the United States in 1987\, and now he and his wife Sandra make their home on their small horse farm in upstate New York. \nWhen he is not touring\, Samite finds inspiration from their horses\, Shadow and Thyme\, photography and woodworking. Today his smooth vocals accompanied by the kalimba\, marimba\, litungu\, and various flutes mesmerize audiences throughout the world. \nSamite has released eleven CDs internationally and in 2009\, the film Taking Root: The Vision of Wangari Maathai\, which features his original score\, debuted nationally on PBS. Samite released My Music World\, in 2010 and\, as he states\, the album captures more of who he is than any of his previous albums. “It represents influences from all the places I have been\, from my childhood in Uganda\, and my life in Kenya as a refugee\, to my current travels in Africa with my work for Musicians for World Harmony. I am always inspired by my surroundings– my childhood hikes into the forest\, my teenage years in Kampala\, and my visits to refugee camps and orphanages.” In 2012\, Samite composed the soundtrack for the film Addiction Incorporated and his ninth CD\, Trust {Inspired by the soundtrack for the film “Addiction Incorporated”} was  released in that year.  Samite has recently released his tenth CD\, “Another Side of Me” (available on this website) and he is currently working on another CD to be released later this year. \nSamite is the subject of the documentary\, Song of the Refugee\, distributed by PBS in 1998. It was while filming this that Samite’s work as a humanitarian began.  In 2002\, he founded Musicians for World Harmony\, an organization dedicated to enabling musicians throughout the world to share their music to promote peace\, understanding\, and harmony among people. In that capacity he travels to sing\, play music\, and exchange stories with victims of war\, poverty and HIV/AIDS.  He has traveled extensively the war-torn and distressed countries of Uganda\, Kenya\, Congo\, Rwanda\, Tanzania\, Latvia\, Liberia and Cote d’Ivoire to work in refugee camps\, with former child soldiers and AIDS orphans. \nIn his role as Founding Director of Musicians for World Harmony\, Samite is fortunate to bring his message of peace to a wide audience. He performed his arrangement of the traditional Baganda song\, Ani Oyo for The Dalai Lama in 2007 during Bridging Worlds with His Holiness The Dalia Lama in Ithaca\, NY. In 2009 he performed at “Connecting For Change\,” part of the 2009 Vancouver Peace Summit: Nobel Laureates in Dialogue\, hosted by the Dalai Lama Center for Peace and Education. \nIn the fall of 2011\, Samite performed and spoke at the UNHCR 60th Anniversary Celebration in New York City. More recently Samite collaborated with the filmmakers of “Alive Inside\,” an award-winning documentary on the power of music to awaken the memories locked away in patients with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.  This film and Samite’s subsequent place on Dr. Bill Thomas’ 2014 “Second Wind Tour\,” have cemented the natural progression of the work that Samite does with Musicians for World Harmony.  This direction\, of an increased focus on working with seniors and dementia patients\, evolved into a collaboration between MWH and Dr. Bill Thomas for his “Age of Disruption Tour” in 2016 and 2017. Samite and Musicians for World Harmony continue to bring the healing power of music into communities in upstate New York and around the country- working with young and old alike. \nIn the Spring of 2018\, Samite finished recording his eleventh CD\, Resilience -and it was released on September 14\, 2018.  He also completed two years of work with directors at Saint Joseph University on the theatrical performance of the same name which had its World Premiere on March 23\, 2018 in Hartford\, CT.  Samite is now touring Lessons of Humanity and Resilience\, his one-man theater performances and his compelling show\, The Story of Mutoto\, in which he connects the stories of his childhood in Uganda to his trips to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in western Uganda and the plight of the endangered Silverback Mountain Gorillas.

SUMMARY:The 7th Voyage of Egon Tichy
DESCRIPTION:The 7th Voyage of Egon Tichy (Sinking Ship Productions and Theater in Quarantine)\nSaturday\, November 16 @ 2PM | Donna M. Morris Theater\nTickets $25-$50 Adult\, $15 Youth CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS \nSpace traveler Egon Tichy likes his quiet time. \nBut when his ship gets hit by a chunk of interstellar detritus\, he’s sent careening into a minefield of time vortexes. This slapstick science-fiction adventure propels Sinking Ship and Theater in Quarantine into their most technically ambitious production to date\, improbably trapping performer Joshua William Gelb amidst an exponentially expanding cast of one. \nThis is a live multi-media performance including both a live actor onstage and video overlay. \nABOUT THE ARTISTS \nSinking Ship Productions (www.sinkingshipproductions.com) a New York-based theater company\, is the creative collaboration between Jonathan Levin and Josh Luxenberg. We work with a core group of Associate Artists\, combining physical theater\, puppetry\, music and movement in delightful\, strange and unexpected ways. Sinking Ship creates work that is the theatrical version of circumnavigating the globe in a questionably seaworthy vessel: grand and ridiculous\, unadvisedly ambitious\, and possibly delusional as we sail full tilt to the horizon. \nTheater in Quarantine (youtube.com/theaterinquarantine) is an Obie and Drama League Award-winning performance laboratory dedicated to the exploration of the live theatrical experience in the digital space. Established in response to the pandemic\, TiQ has developed and live-streamed dozens of visually distinctive\, original works to its YouTube channel\, working out of a closet in the East Village that’s only 8 sq feet. \nTheater in Quarantine merges the live and the digital — embracing 21st century solutions to the question of “what is “theatrical”? Our digital and hybrid programming spans genres and styles\, with world premieres of new plays\, new musicals\, adaptations of classic texts\, dance\, and site-specific art installations. \nThe accessibility of the digital form has allowed us to reach audiences around the globe\, with our viewership growing from just a handful to thousands. Theater in Quarantine has been featured on NPR’s All Things Considered\, Japan’s NHK Television\, and has been profiled in The New Yorker and The New York Times. Within a single year Theater in Quarantine has been a five-time New York Times Critic’s Pick as well as one of Vulture’s “Top 10 Best Theater Moments of 2020” and among the New York Times’ “Best Theater of 2021.”\n\nDuring the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic Theater in Quarantine was run by Co-Creative Directors Joshua William Gelb and Katie Rose McLaughlin\, collaborating remotely with over a hundred collaborators and reaching audiences across the globe. Presenting partners include The Invisible Dog\, Theater Mitu\, LaMama\, CultureHub\, New Georges\, CulturalDC\, A2SF\, the Exponential Festival\, and NYUSkirball. TiQ continues to create new and exciting digital performances for both in-person and digital audiences.

Morris Theater at Field Hall\nWaterfront Coffee Bar at Field Hall open 7AM – 4PM\nTickets $20 Adult\, $10 Youth\, CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS \nLet’s raise a little hell this fall! Starring Tony-Nominee Jeremy Jordan and Olivier-Nominee Frances Mayli McCann\, this cult-favorite Broadway musical re-tells the unbelievable true story of America’s most infamous couple\, Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow. Captured in stunning\, world-class quality\, as they say “ain’t no way you won’t remember us.” \nFilmed live at Theatre Royal Drury Lane during two special one-off concert stagings in January 2022\, Bonnie & Clyde The Musical: Filmed Live features theatre royalty Jeremy Jordan as Clyde (The Great Gatsby\, Waitress\, Super Girl\, Newsies\, The Last Five Years) who originated the role of Clyde Barrow in the Broadway premiere of the production in 2011. He is joined by Frances Mayli McCann (Heathers\, Priscilla\, Queen of the Desert\, Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour) who went on to originate the role of Bonnie in the West End. \nBonnie & Clyde The Musical is the story of two small-town kids from the middle of nowhere who became the biggest folk heroes in all America. They craved adventure – and each other. Fearless\, shameless\, and alluring\, this is the electrifying story of love\, adventure and crime that captured the attention of an entire nation. \n \nABOUT THE SHOW\nBonnie and Clyde The Musical: Filmed Live features music by multi-Grammy®\, Tony® and Emmy® Award nominee Frank Wildhorn (Jekyll & Hyde\, The Scarlett Pimpernell\, Death Note)\, lyrics by Tony® and Oscar® winner Don Black (Sunset Boulevard\, Aspects of Love)\, a book by Emmy® Award nominee Ivan Menchell (Blended [movie]\, The Cemetery Club\, Death Note The Musical). Wildhorn\, and Black were Tony-nominated for their score. \nProducer David Treatman said: “For many\, exposure to musical theatre begins at home or in school\, and my hope is that worldwide audiences will bring Bonnie & Clyde into their auditoriums and living rooms. \n“We were able to capture an extraordinary performance of this beloved show in an unusually vital way. There is an electricity that courses through the performances that we were able to translate to the screen through the excellence of the artists involved at every level of the production\, and an innovative approach to the taping. While nothing can replace the live experience\, our film harnesses the power of cinema to capture its essence\, preserving the energy of live performance while embracing the advantages of film\, delivering both the danger and excitement of the stage alongside the intimacy and intention of the camera at a price that anyone can afford.” \nThe filmed concert staging features some of the biggest names in musical theatre including George Maguire as Buck\, Natalie McQueen as Blanche\, Trevor Dion Nicholas as Preacher\, Liam Tamne as Ted\, Casey Al-Shaqsy as Stella\, Simon Anthony as Cop/Bud/Archie/Deputy Johnson\, Gillian Bevan as Cummie Barrow/Eleanor\, Eloise Davies as Trish\, Adrian Grove as Henry Barrow\, Debbie Kurup as Governor Miriam Ferguson\, Matthew Malthouse as Bob Alcorn\, Jeremy Secomb as Judge/Sheriff Schmid\, Russell Wilcox as Captain Frank Hamer\, and Julie Yammanee as Emma Parker. \nNick Winston directs the concerts with musical direction by Katy Richardson\, assistant direction by Alexzandra Sarmiento\, lighting design by Zoe Spurr\, set and costume design by Philip Whitcomb\, and sound design by Tom Marshall. SUMMARY:Stillhouse Junkies
DESCRIPTION:Field Hall Presents: Stillhouse Junkies\nSeptember 6 @ 7:30PM | Donna M. Morris Theater at Field Hall \nSunset Bar & Lounge opens at 5PM\nTickets $28 Adult\, $15 Youth\, CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS \nStillhouse Junkies\, a charmed trio from the hills of Colorado\, have offered up a hypnotic and high-energy form of roots music anchored in the freeflowing interplay among the three lifelong musicians (Fred Kosak on guitar and mandolin\, Matt Thomas on upright bass\, Alissa Wolf on fiddle).  (Listen to Stillhouse Junkies on Spotify) \nWhile they’ve gained major traction in the bluegrass world in recent years—including winning the IBMA Momentum Band of the Year award in 2021— Stillhouse Junkies ultimately inhabit a genre-blurring and subtly inventive sound informed by everything from blues to classical to Texas swing. When matched with their nuanced songcraft and soul-stirring harmonies\, the result is a one-of-a-kind musical experience that immediately transports the listener into a more enchanted state of mind. \n \nABOUT THE ARTISTS (www.stillhousejunkies.com) \nFounded not long after Kosak moved to Durango from his native New England\, Stillhouse Junkies got their start playing a weekly residency at a local distillery and quickly drew a dedicated following on the strength of their unforgettable live show. Although all three members had established careers in other fields\, they soon devoted themselves full-time to the band and delivered their debut album in 2018\, then embarked on their first national tour the following year. \nAs they earned an evergrowing number of accolades\, Stillhouse Junkies built up a repertoire of original songs by tapping into their eclectic sensibilities. Their third full-length and first release for Dark Shadow Recording\, 2022’s Small Towns\, perfectly encapsulates what makes their music so spellbinding\, presenting a richly detailed selection of songs that often use the wildly colorful mythology of the American West to explore complex questions of the human heart. \nWith their fourth album due out in 2025\, Stillhouse Junkies have now achieved such triumphs as touring in the UK and Europe and taking the stage at leading festivals like MerleFest and Grey Fox. Whether they’re performing at house concerts or playing to crowds of thousands\, the band balances the dizzying intricacy of their musicality with plenty of freewheeling improvisation. And at the heart of their musical connection is an easy camaraderie made even more powerful by the intimacy of their lineup. \n“There’s a cool dynamic to the trio that we’ve really embraced over the years\,” Kosak points out. “We all believe that the triangle is the strongest shape.” “One of our favorite things we hear after shows is that we have such a big\, full sound for just three people\,” Wolf adds. “We always just try to bring a lot of joy to everything we do and give the audience something they can’t even describe. We want to leave them wondering\, ‘Wow\, what was that?’”
