SUMMARY:Cooksey Gallery Exhibit Opening: VOYAGES MONOCHROMATIQUES "MONOCHROMATIC JOURNEYS"
DESCRIPTION:Field Hall Gallery Exhibit Opening: VOYAGES MONOCHROMATIQUES “MONOCHROMATIC JOURNEYS”\nOpening on April 15th @ 5PM | On Display April 15 – June 15\nFREE ADMISSION \n\n\nOPENING CELEBRATION APRIL 15\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for the opening celebration of VOYAGES MONOCHROMATIQUES featuring the work of local photographers Thompson Holmes\, Richard Kohler\, Ernst-Ulrich Schafer\, and Philippe Tauran. The exhibit explores the essence of visual subject matter through the contrasts of light and shadow\, from bright whites to deep blacks\, in a celebration of black-and-white imagery. \nThe venue will open at 5PM\, with live music from The Sarah Shea Trio kicking off the evening. Gallery Manager Georgia Ray Johnson will introduce the artists and provide the land acknowledgement. The featured artists will offer their perspectives on the show followed by an opportunity for Q&A. The gallery will then open for viewing at approximately 5:35PM\, with musicians returning to perform as guests mingle until 7PM. \n\n\n\n\nON DISPLAY APRIL 15 – JUNE 15\n\n\n\n\nWithout color\, light and composition are put sharply into focus to create a fresh perspective. \nOn display April 15 through June 15th. Local photographers Thompson Holmes\, Richard Kohler\, Ernst-Ulrich Schafer and Philippe Tauran are have been working in the medium of monochrome photography for many years collectively. Through much effort and practice\, they have found that the essence of visual subject matter can genuinely be shown in monochromatic style. \nThe light and the composition are very important in capturing the moment: everything is expressed in terms of light\, from bright white to dark black\, and in many wonderful shades of gray in between. This is a celebration of black and white photography – a unique artistic experience which challenges the viewer to see beyond color. \nGallery hours are 10AM – 2PM Monday through Saturday. Free admission\, donations are appreciated and support future exhibits. Learn more at www.fieldhallevents.org/gallery

For more information visit www.fieldhallevents.org/gallery \nABOUT THE ARTIST\nEvette Allerdings was taught to sew by her mother when she was eight. She began sewing her clothes as well as clothes for her various Barbie and Ken dolls. Every summer she and several of her friends that lived on the same block put on fashion shows for the neighborhood until she went to middle school. \nAt age 13 she saw a high school production of Don Quixote and dreamed of being a costumer. Too shy to get involved in the theater\, she often walked by the high school drama class peeking in the door but not having the courage to walk in. She graduated with a BS in Fashion Design from the University of Hawaii but chose to become a medical assistant for her lifetime career. In her mid-30’s she finally took a theater course at her local community college and later became a costumer at Windward Community College for 27 years. Winning multiple awards for best costumer\, the last being for Phantom of the Opera. \nAs a costumer\, Evette was often frustrated in her search for the perfect fabric and yearned to design her own. This led her to silk painting and she now uses silk painting to express herself. Yearning to sew again\, her next challenge will be incorporating her silk paintings into garments. \nEvette won First Price in the 2D division for last year’s Silk Painter’s International competition for her painting Solace. She has participated in recent exhibitions in Washington\, and you can see some of her continuing work in the Fiber Habit window in Port Townsend.
