SUMMARY:Tenderly - The Life and Times of Nat King Cole
DESCRIPTION:Field Hall Presents: Tenderly – The Life and Times of Nat King Cole\nAugust 18th\, 19th\, and 20th @ 6PM | Sunset Bar & Lounge\n*Tickets $40\, 2 item food and beverage minimum | CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS\n*Our ticketing platform Ludus charges a 5% service fee for all card transactions. To avoid this fee\, visit our Box Office at 201 W. Front Street and pay via cash or check. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \nAward-winning artist Duane Forrest blends the timeless music of Nat King Cole with powerful storytelling in a captivating\, heartfelt exploration of legacy\, identity\, and quiet resistance. \nFrom Off-Broadway stages to international festivals\, Forrest invites audiences into an intimate\, soul-stirring journey through the life and influence of one of the 20th century’s most iconic voices. Blending velvety renditions of Cole’s classics with deeply personal reflection\, he explores how a Black man in 1950s America became a cultural pioneer — the first to host a nationally broadcast television show — while navigating a world that celebrated him onstage but resisted him off it. \nRaised in Toronto\, Forrest reflects on his own relationship with jazz — a genre born from Black roots\, yet often presented as distant or elite — and how discovering Cole’s music opened the door to spaces he once felt were not meant for him. \nThrough song\, story\, and striking theatrical imagery\, Tenderly is a moving meditation on influence\, dignity\, and the quiet power of simply showing up. \nUplifting\, personal\, and unforgettable: this is a must-see performance!  \n  \nABOUT DUANE FORREST\nDuane Forrest is a professional singer-songwriter and multimedia artist from Toronto\, Ontario.\nHis unique sound blends jazz\, reggae\, bossa nova\, soul\, and smooth vocals. Over the past decade\, Forrest has released two full-length original albums and toured in Canada three times\, in Europe four times\, and in Central America three times. He has secured radio play in Canada\, Germany\, Honduras\, Iceland\, Italy\, Nicaragua\, and the United States. His latest album\, The Climb\, reaches more than 4\,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. \nIn 2017\, Duane debuted his first theatre production\, Climb\, a live album experience based on his concept album\, The Climb. Duane also presented Climb at the 2018 Toronto Fringe Festival\, where Toronto Fringe founder Gregory Nixon described the show as “one of the highlights of this year’s Fringe.” Most recently in 2019 & 2022 Climb received glowing reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In 2023 Duane performed CLIMB at the Milan Fringe Festival and was runner up for “show of the festival”. He also debuted a new show called “Bob Marley: How reggae changed the world” that received a 5 star review from Broadway Baby. As he furthers his career\, Forrest aims to continue to push the boundaries of his art by delivering music in diverse storytelling formats. \nOur ticketing platform Ludus charges a 5% service fee for all card transactions. To avoid this fee\, visit our Box Office at 201 W. Front Street and pay via cash or check. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. Is cost a barrier? SUMMARY:Songwriter's Evening - The Roots Project with Martha Redbone & Aaron Whitby
DESCRIPTION:Field Hall Presents: Songwriter’s Evening – The Roots Project with Martha Redbone & Aaron Whitby\nThursday\, September 24 @ 7PM | Sunset Lounge\n*Tickets $40 General Admission\, $55 VIP | CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS\nFinancial assistance available – click here to apply \n*Our ticketing platform Ludus charges a 5% service fee for all card transactions. To avoid this fee\, visit our Box Office at 201 W. Front Street and pay via cash or check. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM. \nLed by the extraordinary Martha Redbone and longtime collaborator Aaron Whitby\, The Roots Project is an experience that is more than a concert: a journey through American music\, storytelling\, and shared cultural memory. Hailed as “a brilliant collision of cultures\,” the ensemble weaves together folk\, blues\, gospel\, and soul with Indigenous musical traditions to create a sound that is at once timeless and urgently contemporary. \nIn this stripped-down songwriter format\, the evening unfolds with an intimate\, conversational energy. Redbone’s powerhouse vocals—shaped by her Afro-Indigenous heritage and Appalachian upbringing—blend with Whitby’s expressive piano and musical direction\, creating a rich sonic landscape that moves effortlessly between genres and emotional registers. Through story and song\, they share reflections on identity\, resilience\, and the human spirit\, inviting audiences not just to listen\, but to connect. \nExpect a performance that feels both deeply rooted and spontaneously alive: songs that draw from ancestral traditions and contemporary influences\, interwoven with humor\, history\, and heartfelt storytelling. Past performances by the Roots Project are known for their communal spirit—often blurring the line between stage and audience through call-and-response\, storytelling\, and a shared sense of purpose. \nSet against the sweeping waterfront views of the Sunset Lounge\, an intimate gathering space known for its warm ambiance\, craft cocktails\, and relaxed pre-show atmosphere\, this Songwriter’s Evening invites audiences into a deeply personal\, soul-stirring musical experience. \nWhether you’re discovering Martha Redbone for the first time or returning to her work\, this evening offers a rare opportunity to experience one of America’s most vital voices in an up-close\, immersive setting—where every note\, every story\, and every moment resonates. \n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT MARTHA REDBONE\nMartha Redbone is a vocalist\, songwriter\, composer and 2021 United States Artist fellow and multi award-winning musician\, she is celebrated for her tasty gumbo of roots music embodying the folk and mountain blues sounds of her childhood in the Appalachian hills of Black Mountain\, Kentucky\, infused with the eclectic grit of her teenage years in pre-gentrified Brooklyn. Inheriting her powerful gospel-singing father’s voice and the resilient spirit of her mother’s Southeastern culture and heritage\, Redbone broadens the boundaries of American Roots music with songs and storytelling that give voice to issues of social justice\, connecting cultures and celebrating the human spirit. Martha works in partnership with longtime collaborator/husband Aaron Whitby. \nHer album The Garden of Love: Songs of William Blake (produced by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band founder and Grammy-winner John McEuen)\, is “a brilliant collision of cultures” (New Yorker). Redbone and Whitby are the composers\, arrangers and orchestrators of original music and score for the 2022 Broadway revival of For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuff\, the 1976 classic choreopoem by the late Ntozake Shange\, which garnered seven Tony Award nominations and critical acclaim. Redbone and Whitby are the 2020 Drama Desk Award recipients for Outstanding Music in a Play and the 2020 Audelco Award recipient for Outstanding Composer of Original Music and Score for the Off-Broadway revival.\nABOUT AARON WHITBY\nAaron Whitby is an award-winning pianist\, songwriter\, composer\, record producer\, and engineer known for his work with an array of noteworthy artists\, including George Clinton\, Natalie Cole\, Randy Brecker. Born and bred in London\, England\, Whitby is best known for his work with his longtime collaborator and wife\, Martha Redbone. Whitby is the brainchild behind Cousin from Another Planet- a Jazz and Visual exploration project\, receiving critical acclaim and accolades from music journalist and critic Greg Tate as “Percolating\, stimulating and motor- booty activatin’…”. Additional works from the Redbone/Whitby composer team include “Revelation” by Flannery O’Connor directed by Karin Coonrod (2022)\, “HUMAN” an exploration in puppetry directed by Nehprii Amenii (2024)\, song contribution for “Primer for a Failed Superpower” directed by Rachel Chavkin (2019); “Flood in the Valley”\, a Chinese -American musical collaboration directed by Michael Liebenluft (2018)\, “Stars” – Privacy in the Digital Age in 5-Minute Plays (2018)\, commissioned by the New York Theater Workshop and Goethe Institute\, and many more. Whitby and Redbone are recipients of Creative Capital awardees\, the New England Foundation for the Arts Award\, MAPFund and National Performance Network Creation Fund. The team are currently in development with Black Mountain Women\, a new musical directed by Les Waters\, book by Naomi Iizuka\, commissioned by the Public Theater\, NY. As with Redbone\, we are excited to partner with Whitby because of his unique and energetic musical collaborations with Redbone that highlight\, preserve\, and share the stories\, cultures\, and voices of our country’s marginalized communities. \nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone. SUMMARY:Hot Damn Scandal - Heebie and the Jeebies Halloween
DESCRIPTION:Field Hall Presents: Hot Damn Scandal – Heebie and the Jeebies Halloween\nSaturday\, October 31st @ 8PM | Sunset Lounge\n*Tickets $19.50\, $5 for 40 under 40 Members | CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS\nFinancial assistance available – click here to apply \n*Our ticketing platform Ludus charges a 5% service fee for all card transactions. Expect haunting tunes that will raise the dead and get them on the dance floor! \nHot Damn Scandal is dressing up this Halloween as Heebie and the Jeebies. Mixed in with their standard repertoire of original material they’ll be bringing it old school like when the rods were hot and the wars were cold. Classic movie monsters! Timeless halloween traditions! A costume contest for the ages! Doo-wop on the speakers and the twist in your hips! It’ll be a frightfully good time. \nArtist Lineup: \nPete – Rhythm Guitar and Vocals\nAni – Musical Saw and Vocals\nMickey – Bass and Vocals\nJimmy – Trombone\nJane – Saxophone\nAugie – Electric Guitar\nDavid – Drums \n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT HOT DAMN SCANDAL\nBellingham-based band Hot Damn Scandal finds its songs under park benches and in forgotten alleyways. The resulting outlaw ballads\, dirty jazz\, circus freakouts\, ragtime sea-shanties\, string band funk\, lonesome heart-breakers\, and whiskey bottle love songs blend together in a sweet song syrup somewhere between a ramble and a roar. If Tom Waits\, Django Reinhardt\, and Mississippi John Hurt had met in a New Orleans carnival\, stayed up all night under a bridge writing songs\, and decided to form a band\, the results might sound something like Hot Damn Scandal. \nOur mission is to make art accessible to everyone.
