Without color, light and composition are put sharply into focus to create a fresh perspective. Local photographers Thompson Holmes, Richard Kohler, Ernst-Ulrich Schäfer and Philippe Tauran are have been working in the medium of monochrome photography for many years collectively. Through much effort and practice, they have found that the essence of visual subject matter can genuinely be shown in monochromatic style.
The light and the composition are very important in capturing the moment: everything is expressed in terms of light, from bright white to dark black, and in many wonderful shades of gray in between. This is a celebration of black and white photography – a unique artistic experience which challenges the viewer to see beyond color.
