Join us for FREE JAZZ SUNDAY in the Sunset Lounge on Sunday, June 1, as the Peninsula College Jazz Ensemble takes the stage for an afternoon of incredible music and local talent. This dynamic performance will feature vocals by Robbin Eaves and Chris Hockstatter, and a special guest appearance by acclaimed Seattle-based composer and pianist Nelda Swiggett.
Nelda Swiggett has been a prominent force on Seattle’s jazz scene since the early 1990s. As a bandleader and award-winning composer, she has headlined at many of the Northwest’s premier jazz venues, including the Seattle Jazz Fellowship, the Earshot Jazz Festival, Bumbershoot, and the Bellevue Jazz Festival. With five acclaimed albums released on OA2 Records, Nelda’s music has earned praise and international airplay.
Her original compositions and big band arrangements have been performed by top ensembles such as the Garfield High School Jazz Band and the Seattle Women’s Jazz Orchestra. In addition to co-leading Clif & Nelda’s Little Big Band and composing for the Megabopolis sextet, she also performs with her quintet in “For the Birds”—a powerful multimedia project combining live music, poetry, and images to reflect on climate change. A dedicated educator and versatile performer, Nelda brings a unique voice and creative spirit to every stage.
