About Sarah
Sarah Tucker has lived in Port Angeles since 1999. A self-taught artist, she works in mixed media, costume creation, and performance art. As part of Peninsula Performs!, Sarah teaches both Marine Debris Art and theatre classes.
In her Marine Debris Art classes, Sarah brings dry debris collected from local shores into the classroom. Students use these materials to create 2D art, sculptures, mobiles, and functional or wearable art, working independently or in groups with materials and tools including wire, wire cutters, and low-temperature glue guns. At the end of the class, students are invited to share their creations, which they get to keep.
Sarah’s theatre classes build toward some form of performance, with the approach changing by age group. For elementary students, the focus is on creating a fun learning experience. Middle school students can explore more technical aspects of theatre in a collaborative environment. High school students can engage in hands-on technical theatre, stagecraft, and performance based on their interests, preferences, and strengths.
What Students Can Explore
Sarah’s workshops give students opportunities to create, experiment, perform, and express themselves as individuals. Students can build technical skills and creative confidence, create original work, collaborate more effectively, reflect on their learning, revise and improve their work, complete larger projects, prepare for performance or exhibition, build stronger classroom relationships, and develop independence.
Students get the most from Sarah’s teaching when: “They are enjoying themselves.”
In Sarah’s classroom, students: “Are encouraged to be individuals.”
Sarah focuses on helping students: “Find enjoyment in creating and performing.”
Students leave with: “A great memory and/or art piece.”
